King Chulalongkorn’s long reign of 42-years was dedicated to full-scale reforms as he ushered Thailand into the 19th century. One important move was to incorporate a western style government into Thailand. He also improved dimplomatic relations with France, Britain, Usa nd Russia. His children were also sent to the West to be educated.

Chulalongkon also pushed for the abolition of slavery and other modernisation such as building a new railway, and establishing post / telegraph systems. Health and education were two other areas that he saw about improving. The King successfully adapted the country to cope with the rising threat of colonialism. He avoided confrontation and he fostered friendly relations with all powers.
