Fixed bid auction of personalised number plates

The third fixed bid sale of personalised number plates held by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency sale of marks group came to an end at 11:00 13th July 2009. These sales are a recent introduction to the ways the agency brings unissued registration numbers to market for the motoring public to buy. They are the result of customer requests which were previously included in the major auctions and then had their own traditional auctions around the country. There are quite a few customers who want a personalised registration number but are not happy with the selection the DVLA offer, these prospective buyers are able to write into the agency and request a specific combination and so long as it has not already been used the agency will include it in a future sale. Many of the registrations in the sale will mean nothing to most people but are ideal fro the person who requested it. Numbers such as R411 YHO and M182 AHM are requested and included in the sale as they would never be included in a normal selection to be offered by auction or on-line sales. It was therefore quite surprising that twenty five per cent of the registrations on offer did not sell.
