Dogs communicate with each other through barking. Though barking is quite normal for dogs and their owners, sometimes it becomes a nuisance, especially when dogs are barking too much, too loud or at inappropriate times. Dog owners have the possibility of using the Bark Collar to avoid such harassment. In order to benefit of the bark collars, dog owners should know what they are and how they work. Bark collars are electronic devices attached to usual dog collars, used to keep these animals from barking excessively or inappropriately. People consider barking to be excessive or inappropriate in relation with the type of neighborhood, the time of day, and the reasons of this behavior.

These electronic training tools are designed to work using aversive stimuli.
The aversive stimuli consist in a warning beep followed by a mild electric shock, and they are delivered from the collar when the dog barks in excess. The dog is then startled into stopping its barking behavior until it learns to associate the beep and the electric shock with unpleasant feelings and, thus, stop barking excessively or inappropriately.

There are many benefits for the dog owner and its neighbors, which can be associated with the use of the dog bark collar.

• It can be used to train a dog in proper behavior especially at night when the neighborhood is peaceful and quiet since the people are fast asleep. You and your neighbors will no more be waking at odd hours by your dog barking at the moon.

The intensity and duration of the electric shocks are adjustable; you can set them through using the setting buttons of the collar, in accordance with the size of the dog, its training needs and discipline level. Higher settings are appropriate for dogs of large size like the Great Dane, which love to bark anytime with a loud voice, and lower settings are fitting to small sized dogs like the Yorkshire terrier, which barks just occasionally from boredom. When you first use the device you need to do some experiments and adjust the settings of the bark collar; start with the lowest settings and increase the level or intensity of the stimuli until your dog responds to this training technique by ceasing its barking.

• There is also the possibility that your dog barks because of the presence of intruders; most bark collars are able to allow the dog to alert you if it really wants to signal you this thing or another type of danger. In order to do this, the electronic device of the bark collar will automatically shut off in the case your dog barks for at least 15 times in a 30 seconds interval. You should then be able to respond in an appropriate manner such as looking for the source of the dog’s agitation.

• You can easily adjust the bark collar to fit to the size of the neck of your dog, so it will feel comfortable while wearing it. These useful dog training electronic devices are usually fixed on leather made dog collars.

If your dog loves to yip and yap at anything and everything, then the Bark Collar is the best product you can invest on to train it toward proper behavior

Dog Bark Collar – How to Curb Your Dog’s Annoying Barking

Your dog could be barking too much and too often.
If you’re losing sleep over that, so are your neighbors. If you’re renting, you may not want to risk eviction.
You could end up resenting your own dog and spend less and less time with it, because this bad habit of barking. If your dog loves spending time on the park, or on long walks with you, that dog is in for some disappointment.

Barking is one sure way a dog can get your attention

Spending less time with them just worsens the problem since dogs will also use their barking to get your to spend time with them. If you wake up to their barking and come to their side to shush them, then by cause and effect the dog wins – it made you come to its side. That’s the pattern dogs will keep trying to bring about. It’s a cycle you can break.

Animals nearby, sounds, presences, things moving in the garden, cats

Dogs also bark at stimulus in their vicinity. This can be anything from the loud sound of a truck pulling close your house, to the presence of other dogs being walked and passing near your front door, to birds chirping and jumping about on electric wires, to cats and raccoons and things moving in the bush. Even if you’re an overprotective owner, it’s not possible for you to always be the one to shoo away other animals; there’s nothing you can do to mute the sound of a truck, too.

Use an dog bark collar to stop your dog’s barking habit

Dreaming of not been woken up in the middle of the night by that barking? Want to spend a quiet day at the park with your dog? There’s a way to do that. Dogs like yours don’t just give a bark, they give a series of barks. Only a good dog bark collar can help you stop that nasty barking habit. You’ll notice, when you get a no bark collar for your dog, how it interrupts each bark. Over time, there’ll be no more barking.

The stimulus-response theory – or how no bark collars work

The same principle is followed by every no bark collar on the market. The collar is equipped with a small device, usually waterproof, powered by a small rechargeable or replaceable battery set. It triggers when your dog barks, releasing a static shock, a scented spray, or a jarring tone depending on the model you choose. An analogy is this – imagine a kid reaching out to the cooking jar and getting his hand slapped. The stimulus is annoying, more so that a regular slap, and that’s what serves as disincentive for the dog.

What kind of stimulus works best for most dogs?

There have been some studies comparing, on many types of dogs, the effects of all three collar stimulus types – spray, sound, and static. The results found the static and the spray type to be the more effective deterrent to nuisance barking. A low current volt is released by the static type, a stimulus that jars your dog and annoys it greatly, without posing any harm. The other type, the spray type releases a scented but harmless fluid towards the area of your dog’s nose to momentarily overwhelm his sense of smell.

Bark Control Collar – When Your Big Dog Has Big Barking Problem

One big smart dog found a smart way around its bark collar. It’s Magnus, Sandy big St. Bernard who frequently yelled at any animal he could see outside the front gate. By the sound of his bark, you could sense some arrogance, of rightful ownership ignore – Magnus probably felt like he owned the streets.

To teach her big dog some barking discipline, Sandy bought a bark collar. For a week, it worked. And then Magnus was back, with a different bark, but loud and relentless like before. Magnus had gotten used to the shock’s intensity level. When the dog barked, the static collar would release a buzz, a low volt annoying interruption, which the dog seems to have outsmarted.

The big dog found a way, releasing a low whooping kind of bark, and then pausing – because shock collars can continue buzzing until the dog stopped barking. Upon reflection, Sandy thought this was the dog’s way to shake off his collar, to unsettle the nodes touching the dog’s throat. Then after one whooping bark Magnus would pause, and then give out another same bark, over and over.

The intensity setting on the collar – Sandy adjusted this, higher this time, so the big dog wouldn’t be able to ignore it. The slight slack on the collar she adjusted, tightened it up a bit. That stopped Magnus from barking. He couldn’t shake the collar’s nodes off. This meant a consistency in the static correction activation, since the nodes with constantly touching the dog’s neck’s skin.

Magnus was not happy about this – you can see it on his face. He gave out this funny look the moment he threw a whooping bark. Magnus has that “what in the world” look, but tried to whip up another bark. He winced again, a funny familiar look. Days marched into weeks sans the barking – a quiet house it was. With the attention Sandy was giving him, the absence of barking doesn’t seem to wear on Magnus. The barking problem seem to have faded on its own and the big dog was back to simply being a big happy dog.

If you have a big dog that’s as stubborn as Magnus, you may want to try what Sandy did. She spent time observing how her dog moved when it tried to bark. She the instituted some adjustments which she monitored to see if those affected her dog’s barking.

What did Sandy learn from all this? Here’s a summary. You might need to adjust the intensity settings. Make sure the collar is snug-fit, but not too tight. If the static collar is not working is not to your liking, by all means try another type – like the spray collar. Don’t discount your vet from the picture, you may need his tips.

Some dog owners are accustomed to their dog’s long and loud barking that they can sleep through it. But then most of us have neighbors who can’t sleep through so much barking. How about the other people in your home? Even if you wake up in the morning refreshed, having slept through the barking, other people won’t be in the same rested state come morning. And then the complaints pile up; some doggie discipline is needed, if you want the complaints to stop.

You may of course talk to an animal behaviorist, or a dog trainer, and even your trusted vet. You could also take time to look into the source of your dog’s barking. You might want a more direct approach and invest in bark collars. This short article will walk you through bark collars and how well they train your dog.

Instilling Dog Discipline Through Bark Collars

If you have a soft spot for your dog, perhaps you feel that bark collars inflict pain to accomplish the needed behavioral modification. These collars are neither for punishing pets through pain nor for instilling a behavioral change through fear of pain. Instead, its deterrence through an interruption dogs consider unpleasant, but not painful. The interruption comes in a form of stimulus that are of three types, depending on the bark collar. You have the shock, sound, and spray type corresponding to the type of stimulus they release – static, high pitched sound, and liquid spray, respectively.

They are all powered by batteries. The high quality bark collars trigger based on both bark and throat vibrations. This combined trigger allows for the bark collar to differentiate your dog’s bark from other loud sounds in the vicinity. Whatever type you choose, be sure to get the right size for your dog.

Getting the wrong collar size could mean a failed bark training for your dog. The collar has contact points that should be touching your dog’s throat, for it to activate consistently upon every bark. If you happen to get a size larger than your dog’s neck, it could get slid around by your dog, and fail to be in the right position.

Dogs differ in breeds and with breed variety also comes size variety. Get the bark collar that suites your dog’s particular breed. Don’t take chances, make sure the bark collar fits – not so tight you choke your dog, and not too lose it slides around. If you own small dogs, there are bark collars available for them. Online shopping catalogues often contain a list of sizes available for breeds and weight classes.

Some dog owners hear about other dogs getting trained so well that the dogs sit through the cause of their barking – sudden movements, other pets, loud vehicles – without so much as a yap. Each dog is unique, a fact dog owners must come to understand. It’s personality is partially shaped by its upbringing and surroundings. A bark collar could be the way to tone down his incessant barking, and maybe you could have the meek dog you wanted.

What follows is a crash course on bark collars, and some reasons to prefer a spray type bark collar over the two other types.

For dogs who tend to bark uncontrollably, bark collars are a reliable way to train them to cut down such behavior. If your dog tends to bark at sudden movement, and you hushed it to silence once, and your dog did not repeat its loud barking at the same stimuli, congratulations. You may want to consider getting a bark collar. Unlike us, dogs do not see their barking, regardless of what time it is, as a source of embarrassment or as a nuisance. A dog’s habit of barking is meant to be interrupted by a bark collar. With some time spent with the collar, your dog will learn to avoid the interruptions to its barking, and curb its barking altogether.

One of the three types of bark collars is the spray bark collar. The ultrasonic and static bark collars are the other two types; the first uses a high decibel sound and the second a harmless shock. The interruption provided by the spray bark collar is often from a Citronella extract.

The Citronella extract is harmless to dogs. The oil is derived from the Citronella plant itself, and therefore harmless to animals. Once the spray collar is fit snugly on your dog’s neck, the spray will do its job. The sound of the spray and the overwhelming scent of Citronella will annoy the dog so much it will want to avoid the experience. This is safe for use with all dog breeds. Just be sure to shop for the appropriate size for your dog.

So remember, it pays to be a good dog owner and understand that your dog can be taught to stop barking. But perhaps expecting your dog to be always meek may not be possible. With a spray spray bark collar and some quality time training your dog, you can be sure gain more quiet time at home.
