An eye doctor also referred to as a Grand Blanc MI optometrist, have long been in high demand as the eyesight in most people gets worse with age in addition to genetics that may cause bad vision beginning in childhood. Some of that high need has changed in part due to the economy in addition to newer technology causing people to sometimes not be able to afford to go to a Sandusky MI optometrist or selecting new alternatives done that gets rid of the need of glasses or contact lenses .
Today’s struggling economy and recession has touched people in every economic level and has had a total trickle down effect on the entire population . One group that used to be thought of being recession-proof was that of a doctor but certain kinds of doctors are struggling today . One kind of doctor is an eye doctor, or a doctor of optometry . A lot of companies have had to fire employees and with that eliminates their medical benefits. Usually eye care is something people do not feel a great urgency to have looked at yearly if they already have their old glasses or contact lenses. Another item businesses are getting rid off to cut costs within their companies are some health benefits . several have eliminate medical insurance for optical health and this has caused fewer people being able to afford going to the eye doctor without insurance.
Another reason Americans have stopped going to an optometrist is the impact of new technology like the invention of lasik surgery. This laser based surgery has cured thousands of people’s eye sight in a simple out patient procedure that is not painful and the recovery time is minimal . Most people can see better [seconds|immediately} after having the lasik done. Once you have this lasik surgery done, there is no longer a need to wear corrective eye ware or contact lenses. Because of this, it has affected general optometrists.
Another type of doctor that have been a bit affected by the recession are doctors that do elective procedures such as cosmetic surgery and weight loss surgeries like gastric bypass and lap band surgeries . since they are elective, a lot of people simply can not afford to have these procedures done in a tough economy . If they have not been fired , they may have experienced a pay cut or even benefits that have been eliminated. Unless their health is a medically urgent matter , most of these surgeries are not covered by insurance so patients are opting not to have them done in economically hard times .
With the downturn of the economy these health care providers and doctors are expereincing difficult times that they never would have imagined but unfortunately, people can not simply afford what are considered extra medical expenses when their money is disappearing or they have been fired from their job. It is more important for them to have shelter and food on the table than a new pair of glasses or a face lift . Hopefully, as the economy improves so will the careers of these needed doctors.
