Parenting Information: Your Child Is An Individual
Just as no two snowflakes are alike, each child is unique in their own special way. Each child has their own unique way of feeling, thinking, and interacting with others.
Some children are retiring, while others are fearless; some are always on the go, while others are calm; some are touchy, while others are carefree. As a loving and supportive parent, it’s your role to encourage them to accept their uniqueness and celebrate their individual qualities.
You should allow your daughter or son to articulate themselves through their interests. They may find a creative channel in theatre, dancing or photography, or they may be talented in the sciences or sports. Urge them to take part in what they like to do, what interests them, and what they enjoy. Help them appreciate that they don’t need to worry about being ‘the same as everyone else.’
Help your daughter or son to make positive selections, and congratulate them for good deeds, conduct and positive characteristics they have. Spur them on to an active participant in their neighborhood, and let them take part in activities that contibute to a feeling of joining forces with others and fulfilment.
You want to be determined yet fair when disciplining for misdeamours or misbehaviors, and make certain the rules and consequences for breaching the rules are clearly explained. Show a cooperative, caring and unified partnership with your partner when it comes to discipline.
Recognize and toast your son or daughter’s uniqueness. You must never forget that your daughter or son is an individual. Allow your child to have his or her own personal choices and feelings, which may be different from your own.
And finally, help your daughter or son to be true to themselves by doing the same. Demonstrate to your daughter or son how to make positive choices with the choices you make, and that no one is without fault and every body makes mistakes. Show your daughter or son that mistakes can be a great learning occurrence, and that they should not be crestfallen or mortified about making them.
Remember to lead by example. Be the very best role model you can be for your daughter or son.
