A lot of people who have decided to be a nurse early in their career decide to attend an LPN or LVN program. Then later in their career maybe they then starting thinking they want to make more money or what a little more respect. No matter what type of nurse you are it can be hard work. But let’s face it an RN will make more money and likely have more respect then an LPN or LVN. That does not mean LPNs or LVNs are not needed or appreciated, they are of course. If this is hitting home for you maybe you have started to think about an lpn to rn program out there that are available? A lot of nursing are doing it, but it does bring up some questions you need to think about.

That is a great question and what only each individual person can answer themselves. Everyone is different and has different plans in live. Whether it is career related or not, each person has to decide for themselves what is most important to them.

If you are currently as an LPN/LVN and want more money or more responsibility then maybe you should really consider it if you plan to stay in nursing. If you do not plan to stay in nursing then obviously you should decide on something else. But if you do there are several questions to need to consider.

First off will it benefit you relatively quickly? Will you be able to get a new job where you are currently working? Will your current employer pay for you to go to school? If not how will you pay for it? Is financial aid available and do you qualify? These are all excellent question you need to thinking about, writing down and researching to help you decide.

There are many other questions you should be asking yourself and others before you make a final career decision. For example should you go to a traditional brick and mortar type university or choose an lpn to rn online type option? An online program may be exactly what you need if you work full time and/or have a family to support or take care of. Being a full time LPN or LVN is hard and adding a committed non flexibly degree program to the mix can make life much more stressful. Therefore you really need to consider all your options before you make up you mind. That means right now you should be gathering information from both online and campus based colleges to help you decide which is best for you and your career.
