Overview of beer making

The process of beer making involves cooking of the necessary ingredients. The way you mix these ingredients yields the flavor.

Beer has four ingredients – water, malt, hops and yeast. There is no problem sourcing out these ingredients since these are readily available in the market for home brewing and other purposes.

Water used should be filtered in order to get the best taste. The malt ingredient comes from malted barley. It has been processed to allow for the sugars and starched needed to trigger the beer fermentation. Hops are actually flower cones which act as beer flavoring agent. Hops also balance the sweetness and bitterness of the beer. Yeast is the main ingredient that causes causes all the ingredients to transform into beer. It is the main catalyst in the process of fermentation.

The ingredients are mixed, cooked and then allowed to mature to end up as beer.

Process

One good way to produce a home made beer is thru the use of a kit. Kits for this purpose are easily sourced out and come very affordable. You can use the kit over and over in making beer at home.

If all the ingredients are ready and your kit is available, you can start brewing your beer. It starts with mixing the malt and water and boiling them for about 20 minutes. The hops should be steeped for 30 minutes and then blended with the malt and water mixture. Make sure to continue stirring the mix to avoid over heating. The mixture is then allowed to cool.

For the fermented product , this should be prepared with half filled water. Meanwhile the yeast needs to be prepared by mixing it with lukewarm water. It should be properly wrapped and let sit. This will allow the yeast to start rehydrating.

The mixture of hops, malt and water should be put into the glass carboy. Fill the fermenter in full with cold water and allow to reach 75 degrees. In this stage, add the yeast ingredient.

Allowing the brew to sit and ferment then yields a flavored beer. This brief process is what is needed to produce a home made beer.
