Sea Kayaking and Your Safety

Sea kayaking and kayak fishing have increased greatly in popularity over the last few years. Because this sport is fun and energetic it can be enjoyed by people of all ages, shapes and sizes. Most people, however, overlook the safety precautions, and are careless in taking their safety seriously, and forget little steps, like checking the weather forecast before they go out. This results in a high number of kayak related deaths each year. There can be a lot of injuries and deaths prevented if simple safety precautions are made, and the safety of the kayaker becomes a more serious matter.
One of the simpler rules to follow is this: make sure it floats. Yes, the most obvious would be making sure the kayak floats and has no holes or gashes that would cause it to sink in the middle of the lake. However, most people don’t think of all of the other gear in their kayak. If your kayak rolls, most likely, all of your gear will be floating down the river, which is bad enough, but imagine if it the gear were to sink! You should put gear that isn’t waterproof into waterproof containers that will float. You have to remember that if your kayak rolls, even the waterproof areas in your kayak will get water in them.
One thing you should consider carrying in your kayak at all times is a PFD. A PFD is a Personal Flotation Device. A PFD is the single most important piece of equipment you could carry with you in a kayak. Some parts of the world don’t require you to bring one with you, but you should take one with you, if not wear it, anyway. They now make them to look good ad feel comfortable, while with storage pockets to hold your gear. There is no reason why you shouldn’t wear a PFD for it will not only help you save your gear in a roll over, but could also save your life.
When kayaking it is good to use the buddy system. You should never paddle alone. The weather conditions could change rapidly, and things could happen that you can not handle by yourself. A buddy can help you in these situations, and could save your life.
You can also increase your safety with the gear that you carry. You should carry a compass, map, food, water, matches, flare gun, cell phone and anything else you think you might need. It will all fit into one small bag or even into the storage pockets of the PFD you should be wearing. Also, a pump is a necessity because if your kayak is full of water after rolling or capsizing you are either going to get hypothermia or you aren’t going to be able to make it back to shore. Please make sure it floats because if you roll you won’t be thinking of is catching your pump.

Adventure hiking is for the fearless thrill seekers and the experienced hikers. What you will experience in adventure hiking is a lot of ledge walking and climbing, steep embankments and thick terrain. If you are not an experienced hiker you will want to start out with easier terrain, but for those of you who are qualified enough to try adventure hiking, there are many reasons why you should. One reason is that you could participate in a hiking contest, or just to show off your physical skills. There is also the scenery. You will see some of the best breathtaking sights that can be offered when you go adventure hiking.
If you go adventure hiking, you will be out for more than just one day, sometimes up to a week. You will be out in the wilderness and have to be prepared accordingly. Adventure hiking could also become a family trip. It is a good chance to be close to the people you love, and have a bond grow between a family. To be on the safe side, you should consider hiring a guide. If you don’t know the terrain and any obstacles that may lie ahead, you should defiantly get a guide because your safety and well being are in danger. This is a chance to be with nature, and each other. It would be difficult to do this when you are in the hospital.
When you are adventure hiking you see many things and go many places you had not attempted to hike before. These images are usually breath taking, and you will remember them forever. You will gain confidence and looking back on the experience you will be proud that you had completed the hike and what adventures you had. Adventure hiking can also be great exercise. What better way to work out your muscles, heart and brain than a good adventure hiking experience?
If you are wanting to start adventure hiking, but don’t have the experience, you should start off slow. Start on an easy course and work your way up to harder and harder ones. This way you will have the confidence skill and equipment needed for tougher hiking. In the end, adventure hiking is a fun and energetic sport. What’s In a Golf Swing?

Golf is one of the most complex sports around. Even though it may look simple, there are many basic skills you will have to master before being able to excel in this game. The plane is the path the ball will follow after it has been hit by the club. This plane that you will want to aim for will run parallel to the ground with the ball after it has been hit by you.
There are several ways you can try to improve your golf plane. One way would be to get a trainer that will be able to help you in the way you hit the ball, and what path the ball will take after it is hit. If you think a trainer is too much, then there are other ways too. You could video tape yourself and see where you are hitting the ball, and where the ball is going. Then you will be able to adjust accordingly. The other is to use a golf club with a laser light in it. It can take a lot of time and practice to get your swing down. There are exercises that are easy to do and you can do them just about anywhere. Chess – Advice for the beginner player

In Chess as in many other games there is nothing that will improve you so much as playing with good players. Never refuse an offer of a game with a more proficient chess player, the benefit gained from losing to a good player is the best that can be gained.
Never allow your hand to hover over the board, or indeed to come near to it, until you have completely made up your mind what piece to move. Allowing yourslef to move to the board leads to a feeling of indecision that is fatal to success.
Always play according to the rules of chess, never take back a move yourself, nor allow your opponent to recall one. Do not show impatience when your opoonent takes a long time to make his move. His slowness is a tacit compliment to your skill, and enables you to play with proportionate quickness, because while he is thinking about his next step you can take advantage of the time to consider what shall be your reply, besides, it is absolutely necessary for every one wishing to play well at chess to play slowly. A fine player examines occasionally from five to twenty or more moves on each side; this can not be done in a few seconds. It is easy enough to play fast against inferior play; but against equal and better play one cannot play quickly without losing.
Learn to play with either with the white or black men. Do not play too many games at one time—and never allow the loss of a game to upset you. Think of how many thousands of games a Kasparov must have lost before he reached his peak; besides, the loss of one well-fought game with a good player will do more towards your improvement than the gain of ten easy matches with chess players weaker than yourself. Try to play all your pieces equally well. Many beginng players have a preference for a particular piece, such as the Knight or the Queen, and lose both time and position in trying to prevent exchanges of their favorites. In opening your game, endeavor to bring your superior officers into action rapidly but avoid all premature attacks. Take care not to play a piece to a square where it gets in the way of another, and beware of venturing an unsupported Piece in the adversary’s game.
If subjected to a violent attack, you may often put off your opponent by forcing the exchange of two or three pieces. When, however, you are about to exchange officers, you must calculate not only their ordinary value, but their worth in the situation in question; for example, a Rook is generally more valuable than a Knight or a Bishop; but it will happen, that by exchanging a Rook for one of the latter you may greatly improve your position.
It is mostly good play to exchange the pieces off when you are superior in power, so that when you have the odds of a piece given to you by a finished player, you should endeavor to exchange as often as you can consistently with safety.
When an exchange of two or more Pieces appears unavoidable, look closely to see whether it is better for you to take first or to force your opponent to do so. When one of the enemy is completely in your power, do not be too eager to make the capture—there may perhaps be a move of importance which you can make before you take him. Be careful of snatching hastily a proffered man, it may be only given as a bait to catch a more important advantage from you later in the game.
If at the end of a chess game you remain with Pawns against a Knight and find it difficult to evade his repeated checks, remember that by placing your King on the same diagonal as the Knight, with but one intervening square between them, you cannot again be checked under three moves.
When you have lost a game which has cost you great effort, it is a good practice to play it over afterwards in private, and try to discover where the error occurred through which your opponent gained his first advantage. This custom will improve both your memory and your play.
