No more bookshelves…
How many of you grew up with a book shelf in your room that was filled with adventure stories, fantasy tales, epic adventures starring Hobbits and Elves, your favourite cartoon annuals and all manner of other shapes and sizes of books that your parents or grandparents would read to you before going to bed? Probably quite a few, but now this may be a thing of the past.
This is because tablets are taking their place, and with good reason too:
Saves Space
For one it means that you no longer need a big bulky bookcase in your child’s room, leaving more room for toys and games. Book cases can even be a hazard as if they are unstable or the books on them are unstable, which can cause a series of events that leaves your child pinned underneath it.
Easy to Clean
Also, how many times have you had to throw out a book because it got crayon all over it and was illegible, or ended up with a cup of orange juice over it that forced you to put it in the bin. Tablets are easier to keep clean and are less likely to be left lying around your child’s room and in a position to potentially get damaged.
More Interactive
The great thing about tablet books is the fact that they are so interactive. With paper books, the most interactive you could be would be with a pop-up book, or maybe a book with ‘feely’ sections. Now with a tablet you can read stories that come with video, with noises and even games that can change the path of the story entirely. This interactivity adds an extra incentive for your child to read too which is always a good thing.
They Can Have Their Own
While you may have been thinking that you should go out and get your 3 year old an iPad, (and that you would never be able to afford that) there is in fact a huge range of tablets designed just for kids. These tend to be much harder wearing, even easier to use, come with big buttons and enough colours, lights and sounds to keep even the most distracted child engrossed in a story or game.
Educational Games
One thing you can do with a tablet is sneak in an educational game or two. If you tried to get a child to pick up a maths book, they would likely have refused, but with the tablet you just have to push a button and they can be playing an educational game and not even know that they are learning while having fun.
