For most girls a dream prom means a handsome boyfriend, beautiful gown and a touching moment of crowning the queen. Except in the dreams they all see the crown on their own head, but in reality, only one can be named the Prom Queen. Sometimes though, you do not have to be a Prom Queen to feel, and look, like the queen of the ball.
Prom is a rite of passage for high school students, and they should all feel special on this night. Boys can put on a classic tuxedo and an ironed shirt, and they will look great. For girls, it is a completely different experience. Having a date to the ball seems like a small issue compared to the big choice of dress. After all, most teenagers know well in advance who to invite or who will invite them. But finding the perfect dress is hard work.
First there is that dream gown, seen during a fashion show transmission from Paris. The dress is just right, from the color, through the cut, all the way down to the hemline. Sadly, the parents do not feel like going to France to get one of those couture prom dresses so with the image of her dream item, the girl goes shopping with her friends.
Turns out many stores have very similar collections, dresses look very much alike, and all the girls are trying on the same things. Seems the prom night look will be a carbon copy of every other prom night in town. But then this one dress happens to stand out in the crowd, with its color and cut like no other in the store. It even resembles the dream couture prom dress a bit.
Happy teenager takes the gown to the dressing room only to find out that it does not fit her well. She acts happy when her friend is paying for the dress that was almost hers, but deep down inside she wishes she was also done with prom shopping. They spend the rest of the afternoon going from one store to another, one still looking for that special dress, the other being supportive because she had hers.
Three weekends of looking, searching, going out of town, and the girl still does not have her dress. And then something happens. Her mother’s friend suggests a couture prom dress. At first parents think this is inappropriate, but the friend is very convincing and even offers to help. So the following weekend the teenage girl, along with her mom and mom’s friend, find a place offering couture gowns.
The girl considers copying the look from the Parisian fashion show, but the owner of the studio sits down with her and presents her own ideas. They come to an agreement, and make an appointment for the first fitting. Two weeks and four fittings later, the gown is ready. The girl knows she will not be Prom Queen, but she is going with some great friends, and that is enough to put her in a good mood while she gets ready.
When they enter the ballroom, first thing the teenage girl notices is that most of her friends are wearing just a variation of the same dress. And just then her boyfriend spins her around, making her gorgeous couture prom dress swoosh around her legs. Then he looks at her and tells her she is the queen of the ball, making her dream prom come true.
