Fashions In Plus Sizes For You
By: Andrea Dilea

Even if you are a "plus size" woman, you can now enjoy that visit to the mall to find just the right outfit for a special event. In the past you may have had the unhappy experience of discovering that the prom gown or party dress you wanted wasn't stocked in your size. Finally, clothing manufacturers have gotten the message, and you have a new world of style options waiting for you. Nevertheless, you must still take your body type into account if you want to find a dress that makes you look truly terrific.

There are three common shape to plus sized women: apple, pear, and hourglass. Women who are apple shaped carry weight mostly centered about the abdomen and there often is little difference between waist and bust sizes. Pear shaped women have most of their weight about the hips and thighs, while hourglass women distribute weight between the bust and hips with a large difference between those sizes. Wearing a dress intended for a body shape that is not yours will result in a fit that is too tight in one place while too loose in another.

Remember you should choose a size that is a good fit to your body and its measurements, and not the number you think you are. Dressmakers have clothing that is so varied that the size number is almost irrelevant. Look into structured undergarments that are designed to smooth out the body line under the dress. These garments prevent lumps that distort the line and appearance of the dress.

Bigger women have been told for years that we have to wear black, so as to look smaller. Black suits some of us just fine, but others have been yearning to wear color, and if you're the only one in the crowd wearing black, you'll stand out even more! Get rid of those all black outfits and wear color if you want to. There's no need to go to special events looking like someone's governess. Just remember to balance your colors and give them a critical look in the mirror as you put your outfit together.

It's a good idea to try on any outfits you are considering before buying them. Make a point to bring the shoes and undergarments you will be wearing with each outfit so you can correctly gauge fit and hemlines. Wearing the wrong bra can completely change your look from a "do" to a "don't."

Finally, consider taking your garment to be tailored. If your outfit is a little roomy or needs to be shortened, the tailor shop can help you. Clothes are not designed for real people today. Instead, they are made for perfect size models. Get your garment fitted so it will look the best it can on you.
