As more and more people are choosing to holiday on the North Yorkshire coast, they are increasingly opting to stay in Whitby. This once famous whaling and fishing town has become more popular over the last decades resulting in a sharp rise in tourism.

Various types of holiday cottage accommodation can be found in and around the town and on the outskirts of Whitby. Those slightly out of the centre are more likely to have private parking. One of the main advantages of the self-catering holiday cottages is the freedom allowed to the visitor. No need to worry about breakfast and evening meal times, no need to vacate the premises early morning and no curfew of an evening! As with all forms of accommodation, there are prices to suit most budgets.
Over the last decades there has been much investment in the town with regard to tourism. To complement the holiday cottage trade, there has been a knock on effect on the number of restaurants and cafes opening for business. As Whitby has become more well-known through the media with regard to television and newspaper articles, so to has the holiday season expanded. There are a number of events spanning the whole year making it a popular destination throughout the majority of the months of the calendar.
