When Packing for Home
By: Steve Pak

Everything comes to end. Well, technically, when starting something there is always an end to it. Whenever you start something good, it always comes to an end like what you will do in camping. After all those camp fires, sleeping in the wilderness and getting closer to the environment comes to end packing up is the next activity on the list. Yes, it is time to get your gear together and head home to reality. Camping definitely feels like a dream because there are no deadlines to meet and pressures from work. All you care about at that moment is how to relax and enjoy your trip. Then, it is time to pack up your things and head back to your other life.

If you are planning to go home tomorrow it will be a good thing if you will wake up early in the morning. Set your clock three to four hours before your departure to prevent cramming. It is better if your watch has alarm than bringing along your big and bulky alarm clock. There are mens watches that have built in alarm in them designed for camping.

When packing your gear, wipe off first the dirt using rags before putting them away. It is much better that they are somewhat dirt free so that it would not be so hard to clean them at home. Use the same way you did to cram your gear inside your bag like before coming to the camp. Check everything to make sure none will be left behind. It is also advisable to separate dirty clothes from the rest of the clean ones.

Check your cooler or where you store your food. See if there are excess food wastes and water inside. Dispose the water and store in new ice as needed. Cluster together unused vegetables and raw meat inside the cooler with ice to prevent spoilage. Clean your cooking utensils before packing them up to avoid unwanted smell. It is also better to bring along snacks beside you when driving home to eat them when you are hungry.

When there is a camp there is a camp fire. Make sure you have completely extinguished the fire. If not so sure use the excess water from the cooler to put it out. It is very dangerous to leave the camp fire totally not extinguished.

Make sure you have cleaned the area. Gather all the trash and place them all in one big garbage plastic. When you arrived the area was clean so try to leave it clean also. Scout around to pick up small trashes.

Before leaving make one last trip to the bathroom. It will be very inconvenient if during the way home your bladder keeps on bothering you. That will make the trip home longer than expected. So, visit the bathroom last and wash up a bit.

Place everything inside your vehicle. Inspect the area once more before riding the car. Lastly, check your vehicle, walk around it to see if there are problems with it. This is to prevent any accident caused by carelessness to check the vehicle. Then with the last look turn around and bid farewell to the site.

Set the alarm to wake up three to four hours earlier before the departure. It is practical that you bought mens watches with alarm built in them than bringing big alarm clocks with you. Remember to pack your things properly. Gather up all food, dowse the fire, clean the area, last bathroom trip and checking your vehicle will be the last thing you do before going home.

The camping trip was very exciting for you and the rest of your companions. Then it is time to go home to see the busy streets of metropolis and be awed once again to those high rising building. Once your back on track, you reminisce on your little camping trip that feels more like a dream that you were once in.
