So what types of fun things are there to do in NYC?
Plenty!
Everything from visiting the studios of the popular show 30 Rock to that of the Met and Broadway, New York City has plenty to do and see.
The history of New York and that of its famous city begins in the early 1600s, as mentioned above; the name change to what we know today happened when King Charles II of England gave the territory to his brother, the Duke of York, before it would eventually fall into the hands of the United States. NYC was actually the capitol until 1790 when Washington, DC became the nation’s foremost city of government. However, NYC is still recognized as a large financial district, as well as an entertainment mecca.
The city has been known as the main entrance for those entering the US from European countries, with the Statue of Liberty welcoming them as they travel by boat to Ellis Island. Originally a gift from the country of France, the good Lady has been and continues to be a global recognized symbol of both the US and its democracy.
Artists are especially welcomed in the Big Apple, thanks to not only many of the venues that reside in the city, but for the history of many artistic developments. Jazz gained a huge prominence in the 1940s, while both hip hop and punk flourished in the early 1970s. The great literary movement of the Harlem Renaissance began here, establishing many of the most important African-American writers in history. With more than 2,000 art and cultural organizations and 500 art galleries, artists and painters can explore and go wild.
Musicians also have places to see, with Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center for Performing Arts. Then there is Broadway, the widely known and recognized stretch of theaters that cross famed Times Square.
As the second largest area designated for entertainment, New York City is also home to some of our favorite studios. NBC Studios, for instance, has broadcasted a number of television shows and current shows on their lot.
