Acceptance is not easy when you lost a family member and many people have their own ways of managing this loss. Some people say that the level of grief also depends on the family member who has died, age and your closeness to them. If an aged parent or grandparent dies, while you may feel the loss greatly, you can accept it since they are old and death is as natural a process as birth and living.
If the family member is young husband, wife of child the loss is felt very acutely. This is true even if the person dies of a prolonged illness or a sudden accidental death. The only difference is that with the former, you will have the chance of being prepared for the death while in the latter case, the shock will be so tremendous that often acceptance is also difficult. You should do things that your loved one would have done such as eating ice cream on a Friday afternoon or going to movies once a month etc
Taking time to get recuperated from the loss mentally is important as you need time to get back to normalcy. Lastly, if you think of your loved one, you should do things that will make them feel happy and they care about. It could be such as doing gardening or going to charity they loved etc. This will make you lead a life very close to your loved one and this will help you alleviate some of the pain you are going thru and also it will help you feel happy thinking about your loved one.
