How To Overcome Shyness

Shyness affects both introverts and extroverts now and then. Shyness hits everybody once in awhile. Responding to shyness effectively is more vital than deciding what causes shyness.

Shyness consists of 3 basic elements:

1 Feeling self-conscious. Shy individuals focus too heavily on their own performance in social situations.

2 Negative evaluation of self. Shy people tend to think they are doing poorly and assume everybody else thinks so too.

3 Self-preoccupation that is negative. Shy people think they are always making social errors even when nobody else thinks so.

People who struggle with shyness are very self-absorbed. Poor self-image, lack of confidence, an inability to focus outward, and a lack of basic social skills all contribute to the extreme self-absorption of shy persons.

Shyness can be conquered. All that is necessary is a willingness to change and to follow the following tips:.

• Understanding why you feel shy. Shy people have to stop self-obsessing and see that they are distorting reality. Acknowledge shy feelings however don’t dwell on them.

• Understanding folks around you. Most other people worry about their own performance, not how shy individuals are doing. Shy folks are much harder on themselves than other people are. Shyness decreases when less attention is paid to personal fears.

• Focus on your strengths. Stop obsessing about your imagined faults. Concentrate on your strengths instead.

• Pay more attention to others. Shyness goes away when you are taking an interest in someone else. Ask someone new some friendly questions. Take a real interest in others for a change.

• Quit making an attempt to fit in. Being the life of the party is not what it’s cracked up to be. Accept yourself and stop worrying about how you look.

• Learn deep breathing. It is impossible to feel afraid while breathing deeply. When you are feeling anxious or afraid, check and correct your breathing.

• Learn to love yourself. Enjoy your own company for a change. Go for a walk or to a movie alone. Go on a date with yourself. Learning to enjoy yourself will teach you to enjoy others.

Shyness can be conquered. Shyness feels challenging but it's simple to manage.

Learn to love yourself and your shyness will vanish. Folks tend to like folks who like themselves. Practice makes perfect. Never avoid other people. Practicing your skills is what will cure your shyness.
