Thinking of death and planning for the same seems very strange and paradoxical in a sense because it is supposed to be the end of life as we know it. However, throughout life we are already to deal with death as more of a difficult transition and phase rather than the end of a continuum of life. Although we may die, our relationships would not, and we would continue to be remembered as father, friend, brother, daughter, sister or any other relation we may have lived as for others through our lives.
This shows that our emotional existence does not really come to an end with the termination of physical existence as such. The same holds true of our thoughts, perceptions and whatever contribution we have made to the society no matter how insignificant it may seem. It still is there and does not just melts away with our death. This simply means that our physical death is not so much of an end but perhaps a milestone on a great journey whose true beginnings and end are only too dim and distant for us to perceive.
It may be understood that to know this could be very hard for people. This can be said as one of the difficult act for someone to understand it totally. That’s why many act either as they know what death means and act of fear of it. However, they may have to dig deep to understand from their inner self to know it completely. This can be understood by a deep sense of asking by inner heart on who you really are, why are you really here and what would you be, if not as what you are today?
It could be almost anything which may drive you to ponder over the question of death and come to think of how and why of the fear of death. It is also not as important to realize the truth for everyone but to venture on a quest for truth which in some way addresses the universal questions pertaining to life and death. Still, to understand death and to deal with the fear of death are in fact two facets of our intellectual quest in the same direction and most of the time, we are actually faced with the fear of death than we might like to think of.
However, mostly it is in more or less in a sense which lends you with a positive sense of balance in life and lets you weigh your options before making a decision in a more intelligent manner. You might subconsciously calculate the danger of injury or death while doing something as simple and mundane as crossing the road on your way to work. However, if you care to observe its effect on your practical judgment you would find that it only makes you adopt a more intelligent and patient approach to the whole ‘crossing the road’ thing.
This is what makes you adopt more of a cautious approach which serves a positive purpose in keeping you safe from any accidents as you almost mindlessly cross the road a million times on your way to work and going back home. You consider death like a mundane experience while calculating the amount of coverage on your life insurance which goes a long way to protect the financial interests of your dependents. However, only rarely would the fear of death seize a person buying life insurance simply because he is thinking about death or planning about it.
The other dimension that people have to look at life insurance is not an exercise where people plan to escape or safeguard from death. In fact they plan to provide a blanket of security to the family members ever after the bread winner’s death. It is this notion that provides calmness on people’s mind when they apply for life insurance that their family can be safeguarded even after their life has moved on to another phase. This could be even understood by an average person who evaluates life on an even keel.
To understand fear of death and to comes to terms with it is a subjective to the individuals. Similarly the perception of death can affect individuals in one way or another and occasionally crops up and goes down through the ups and downs of life. People who are followers of god have embraced death as a part and particle of life in totality and hence it may be easier for them to accept death. It may be true that death can be embraced by these easily, however the life after that is common for them and to the atheists or individuals who have to deal with their fear about death and so on. All have to take our steps to get relief from this to be happy and to make others happy.
