Odd Beliefs Of Muslims About Engagement Rings
By: Darrielle Lee

People are diverse and so is their beliefs. However the belief about engagement rings seemed to be odd in one of the largest tradition that has scattered in the earth's land. The Muslim tradition has started and was believed to be existed even before the Catholic Church was fully established by Constantine the Great in the 4th century AD.

They behold beliefs that seemed to be uncommon to everybody. One is polygamy, which has long been prohibited since the people on our earth are continuously increasing. However, their belief has its own foundation that has been tested through time and circumstances. Their basis for their beliefs are concrete and has been established by their Imams and Prophet.

Polygamy is a controversial topic since it discards the belief about falling in love one at a time. You can love one person only yet they can marry as many as they can.

Muslims do not believe in engagement rings. More so, they prohibit wearing it. As we know when when we have these promise rings we behold a feeling for someone, we care, think and want to be with them as it has been a symbol of love. In Muslim community they are not allowed to wear this kind of ring because Allah does not want to share a love with the women in their tribe.

The belief about engagement rings as a symbol of love, commitment, unity and eternity has no basis in Quran which is considered to be their holy book. Anything that has no basis in Islam is called “haraam”.

A man can only wear ring as long as it is not gold when it has no meaning at all. Thus, ring should just be a jewelry or an adornment to their body. Hence, their jewelries are just pure fashion decoration. Men however are allowed to give rings to women. But it dos not imply emotional or financial obligation or responsibility. It is still a jewelry, no more than that.

Women are not also allowed to wear rings prior to wedding ceremony. But women who received engagement rings must not rely on their husbands for at any time they will marry again.

In essence there is no real love and the symbol of love is not present in their community. But their beliefs are their inner strength and makes them united in every endeavor that they are taking.
