I'd like to share the top 5 things learned from playing hundreds of free poker games since 2002.
These tips are long term profit strategies that give poker players who use them an unbeatable edge over their luck trusting fish opponents.
I'm sorry but if you think poker is all about luck then prepare to lose. Luck is for beginners and free poker tournament all-in fun only players.
When you learn and apply these poker strategies you'll start to control "luck". You'll learn to avoid all those small errors that add up to big losses, and, for example, learn to ignore those hands that seem so good but kill you more often than not.
Winning big at poker, be it in free poker freerolls or the WSOP boils down to applying a plan where your average win size is bigger and more frequent than your average loss. Get to this stage and you'll be profitable til the day you die.
My Top 5 free poker Game Tactics
One
When you have a good hand it's generally good to let others do the betting while you slow play the hand. I found that 70% or more of the time when I bet on a good hand I'd end up beat. So most of the time I just call what others bet, and, more often than not I have them beat.
Two
If you know that you have a great hand after the flop, let others bet. Once the turn card comes up and you see that others can catch something on the river card you can either go all in or bet big to try and get them to fold. This doesn't work all the time (nothing does) as they may chase and get lucky on the river but it is good strategy that makes more than it loses which is the objective of effective strategy.
Three
Try not to switch seats when you’re losing. You should keep the same seat, because sooner or later (stats and strategy again) that seat is going to get hot. In contrast, if you're winning and it starts to get cold, then you can change seats.
Four
Another great free poker online strategy rule of mine is to try and not slow play pocket aces. Pocket Aces are a whole subject in themselves but in brief are a perfect example of a strong hand that is easy to lose on if played wrong. I find that when I slow play them I'll get beaten more often than not.
If I were to slow play pocket aces or pretty much any good hand, let's say A diamonds, A club and 3 hearts on the flop then most times I fold them because chances are someone is going to catch a flush and beat me anyway.
Similarly if it’s 5 6 7 on the flop, I still fold them if someone bets (unless it's just a small bet in which case I might take my chances).
Five
Finally, always watch the ways others bet if they always bet the same way or bluff a lot then you can beat them more often than not. Usually you can tell when someone is bluffing by how big their bet is, then you know they're trying to buy the pot, you’ll find that this happens quite often and you can nail them!
These tips are just the tip of the iceberg. Learn them, apply them, read poker books and do online poker training to form, test and refine a strategy that works for you and you'll clean up in free poker games and be a serious contender higher up the ladder.
