There are 7 days annually which i totally adore. Those are the 7 home games that Penn State plays football at State College, Pa. I’ve been going to these types of games since I was attending college, and its just been a routine for me and my family for several years. We do not skip a game if possible.
Going to a game in Happy Valley is actually unique. The environment is as good as it gets in college football. State College, Pa is actually right in the middle of the state of Pennsylvania, and as you come down into town, it feels like everyone in the state is actually coming next to you. You certainly feel that way when you appear within the parking lots and see the RVs and tailgaters as far as the eye is able to see.
My personal routine commences early on in the morning as I get myself and my loved ones outfitted in Penn State clothing. Personally, I never attend PSU football games without wearing my good fortune Penn State jersey. Because I like to sit in or near the student area, and they have the custom associated with wearing white for the Penn State “White Out” effect, I've got a white Penn State football jersey. My spouse has a Penn State ladies jersey and my kids have Penn State youth jerseys.
However the equipment doesn't stop with jerseys, as there is a lot more. If it's cold, we might layer up with a Penn State sweatshirt too. A fleece one is ideal if it is a cold late in the season game. White, blue, or gray Penn State sweatshirts tend to be good too, I've got them all in my wardrobe. My loved ones and I additionally possess PSU hats, t-shirts, and overcoats, therefore what ever Penn State gear is needed for that day’s situation, we have.
Next, we load up the car with tailgating gear. The main products would be the fundamental: chairs, grill, coolers, food, and beverages. I have a Penn State Chair that I’ve had forever which i bring to every game, and I use it extensive prior to and after games. We now have about a two hr drive to State College, therefore we usually depart about 6-7 hours before kick-off.
We’ve had exactly the same parking spot in State College for many years, and it is where all of us tailgate with our fellow Penn State enthusiasts. We prefer to get there early to set up the actual grill, furniture, chairs, and a few games (we love to play corn hole). Luckily, we have fellow tailgaters with a portable satellite dish and Tvs to ensure that we are able to watch all the morning college football plays (especially Big 10 games) while preparing for the big game.
The most important part of tailgating is actually socializing with friends, but food preparation and consumption is essential too. We turn up the barbeque grill early and ensure that it stays going all day. Usually multiple kinds of meats get thrown on, personally I love any kind of red meat to go with my adult beverage during tailgating. Don’t forget to have ample ice and mixers.
Tailgating is fun, however I always remind everybody that the key reason we're there is for the game. I like to be in Beaver Stadium 20 minutes prior to kick-off. This enables me personally to soak in all the pre-game festivities, such as the teams running out on the field, Joe Paterno’s entrance, and the incredible sound associated with 100,000 fans yelling “Let’s Go….Penn State”.
These are my favorite seven days of the year.
