Raw Dog Food Diet Tips
By: Jamie Lansley

Raw dog food has become extremely popular these days especially among pet owners who are conscious of what they feed their dogs. There are a lot of positive changes that can be noted when you feed dogs with the right type of raw food such as fish, vegetables, beef, chicken, and lamb.

There are some concerns though that dogs seem to be drinking less when they finally get into the raw dog food diet. This is something that shouldn't really be alarming because dogs are finally getting the right amount of moisture from the raw food that they eat. When they were still eating kibble, they are more prone to seek water because this type of food is typically dry.

As part of the raw dog food diet, fish like mackerel is an essential source of nutrients. Fish is known to contain omega 3 as well as iodine. But some dogs may not fancy the thought of eating fish. In this case you can try cold water fish on them or using marine oil mixed in with their food.

Dogs who start to eat raw are noticeably less eaters. This is because they are finally getting all the nutrients that they need so they feel more full and healthily so. Dogs are actually advised to just eat a full meal once a day unless called for by a veterinarian.

There really isn't any specific time recommended for feeding dogs. However, it is advised that you stick to just one schedule when it comes to feeding time so that they would be conditioned to eat whenever that time comes. This also helps their digestive system form a positive reaction towards the food they eat.

The raw dog food diet also dispels the notion that dogs cannot be fed with actual bones. Contrary to popular belief, it's not cooked bones that are healthy for them. It is the raw kind. You should also just give them raw chicken bones as well as lamb bones because these are the ones soft enough to be chewed thoroughly.

Though vegetables is also an essential part of the raw dog food diet, there are some instances when dogs may act like kids. No matter how much you prod them to, they would disregard the veggies. You can work around this by mixing the vegetables with other food items they like.

Feeding pets with raw dog food requires a specific schedule so that they could naturally get used to it. Also, remember to keep them de-wormed to prevent and unwanted parasites from living inside their stomach especially when they are still developing the necessary enzymes for eating raw.
