How To Keep Puggle Puppies From Running Away
By: Eugene Jmunoz

Many dog breeds are prone to running away and Puggle puppies are no different. Teaching your pup to stay close and not take off is extremely important for training and to save his life.

Being part Beagle, Puggle puppies love to investigate the world around them with their nose. And sometimes their nose leads them to places they shouldn’t be or causes them to take off and follow the scent wherever it may lead, completely ignoring your pleads for him to return.

Puggle puppies also have a lot of energy and love to play and run. This excess energy can sometimes be expressed by running out of the yard and taking a little stroll down the street, no matter how much you yell for him to come back. Both of these things make seem like it’s nearly impossible to train your pup to stay with you but that’s not the case. Proper training is all it takes!

First and foremost, always ensure that your Puggle puppy has the proper ID tags on his collar at all times. You never know when he may try to escape and the ID tags will help to get him home safely. A microchip is also a great idea in case the collar should break or slip off when he is running around the neighborhood. Microchips are implanted under the skin with your contact information so that he can be returned to you. All of our Puggle puppies for sale come with microchips already implanted for your peace of mind!

Now to training! The easiest way to teach your pup to not run away is to teach him the commands of sit, stay and come. Be sure your puppy knows the commands and responds to them immediately before trying any of the other training methods. These commands will be your foundation.

Since many dogs try to run away when the front door is opened or the gate is left ajar, you should practice teaching your puppy to sit and stay when you open the door before taking him out to potty or outside of the yard. Do this each and every time you go out so that he knows he can not just run out whenever he wants. Make him sit still for at least 5 seconds before you give a release command such as 'now' or 'forward', something that is not too common so that your pup will not get confused if you say it out of turn.

Practice these commands every day, even a few times per day, to be sure he is getting lots of training and will come to understand the process faster so you do not have a loose Puggle puppy running through the streets!
