The high energy and athletic prowess of Pointers is the vanguard of their qualities. Their main job is to scout and find prey. Their main task is to identify game and alert the team in order to proceed. Pointers emanate an aura of power from their muscular physique.
Pointers have excellent smell and can pick up scents from miles away. Their demeanor makes them seek out game rapidly, at which point they stop in a pointing position in order to allow the hunter better opportunities.
Pointers can also work in water but are much better on land, and are no match for, say, a Golden Retriever. Some Pointers have been bred as all-purpose dogs and are much more versatile in their tracking and retrieving abilities.
Despite their prowess in hunting they are still very good family dogs. Pointers are very loyal and bond deeply with their families. Despite their physical attributes they are still well-mannered and elegant. Adaptation is a main quality in Pointers and you can see how they can co-exist with many different types of dogs, pets and children.
While hunting dogs may have a funny reputation they are not just hunting dogs. Instead they are very friendly and affectionate and prove their intelligence and skill in a variety of situations. Everybody will love to have the energetic hunting dog around.
