Where’s the ‘on’ button Mummy?
Chances are your children play computer games, have several social media accounts, use a smartphone like a pro and consider electricity more valuable than their own blood. OK maybe not if they are 5 years old Thanks to our rapidly advancing world of technology and consumer products, our children are being swept along in a vast wave of hyped up tech toys and gadgets that are sadly making them miss out on a wealth of great fun low tech games and other fun stuff.
If you like a challenge, why not try getting your children to switch off for a while and join you for some of these classic games:
Monopoly
They may have played the online version but Monopoly is only really Monopoly when you play the classic London version on a real board. Once you get the game underway and the competitiveness starts, Monopoly will grab all their attention and give you a nice family bonding experience like people used to have in the old days.
Charades
They may not know what this means if they haven’t done it before but charades is one of those games that everyone can enjoy. They used to have an entire television show for it for goodness sake! They will be able to act out or mime some of the favourite films or books and pick up a bit more knowledge about you along the way.
Crafts
Making stuff nay be seen as a bit childish by your hi-tech kids but if you can get them interested you may just find they get really into. It is best to give them some excuse to make something like for a birthday or something so that they have to think of something nice for someone else and so that they can see a purpose behind it. Give them a range of paints and materials and they may just surprise you with what they come up with.
They may even get very into it and find they are really interested in pursuing it at school. They may even make some kids bookshelves or childrens desks.
A Bike
May seem like an easy one but you would be surprised how many kids don’t have bikes anymore. Perhaps it’s because parents are a bit scared about their offspring venturing out into the busy streets where traffic is dangerous or maybe it’s not ideal for those trying to look cool. But if you buy them a bike that they like and they can see the fitness/toning benefits then you could be on to a winner.
You never know you might just be able to get them to go on a cycling holiday with you.
