How To Choose The Right Pushchair For You And Your Child?
By: Xavier Tibu

How to Choose the Right Pushchair for you and your Child?

When choosing the right pushchair, there are many factors you must think about which will affect which actual chair you choose. This article is a guide into helping you make an informed decision – which will save you the grief of pulling your hair out down the high street….There’s plenty of time for that when the baby comes along!

“Mummy and Daddy, think about me!”

Of course, your child should be at the forefront of your mind when buying a pushchair. Put yourself in your babies little shoes and think, ‘what would I want?’

In the last five years, child psychologists have researched into the world of pushchairs. The research reveals [according to a study published by the ‘National Literacy Trust’ entitled ‘Talk to Your Baby campaign’] that babies who travel in a 21st century front-facing pushchair will feel ‘emotionally isolated’. According to the study, babies in front-facing pushchairs are less likely to laugh, talk and interact with the pusher – and the study suggests that babies in pushchairs facing the pusher feel less stressed (the babies were slower and were twice as likely to fall asleep in this direction). This research gives a big insight into choosing a factor into choosing the right pushchair and into the advantages of parent-facing pushchairs.

Comfort is a big factor in your baby’s first few years in the pushchair – since they are going to be spending a lot of time in it! We all know a happy baby is bliss (who likes tears?!) and a happy baby is undeniably a comfy baby! So, when choosing a pushchair, look out for features such as adjustable seat positions, well-padded seating and weather-proof shields. Also if your child is a new-born baby, you should be selecting a pushchair with a full lie-back seat unit.

Finally, a very important question…how many babies or children to you have? Hopefully you haven’t lost count! If you have more than one babies at the same age, maybe you would look into getting a double of a triple (side by side) whereas if you had perhaps a child and new-born you could get a tandem – so that the new born could lie flat and the child could be sat up.

How will my lifestyle affect my Baby?

How do you travel mostly? By foot? Car? If by car, you should be looking at purchasing a lightweight and compact fold pushchair which will fold into your boot with ease (look at telescopic fold pushchairs for maximum ease).

If by foot, you need to think about getting about a pushchair with bigger wheels for uneven urban pavement – also you could look into getting a pushchair with 3 wheels, which really come into their element on unpredictable country terrain! Also, if you are taking your little one with you on little shopping spree – you need to choose a pushchair with sufficient storage space underneath the seat unit to store your bags. You also need to buy a pushchair which you can easily fit in your house.

Within these factors you must remember that the pushchair is a personal purchase for both you and your baby. If you want your child to be a little angel out and about, be smart in selecting the perfect pushchair.
