The Gasoline Tax Increase?
By: Christopher Rom

I can understand how an increase in the taxes on gasoline would supposedly decrease the amount of driving for some people in the United States. I also understand that decreasing the green house gases is an essential think to do at this time. Understandably all the other countries have a higher gasoline price than the United States.
I am scared of the fact that with the increase of the taxes on the gasoline that all other products will increase in price. Due to the fact of they will still have to be transported from the different distribution centers. So if the price of a gallon of gasoline basically doubles how much will a gallon of milk become due to this. As with any other product shipped to any store, Walmart, Sears, Kmart, 7-11, Dillards, and all others will have to increase their prices due to the increased cost of the transportation of the goods.
Now if a person that only uses their car for work and to the store that makes minimum wage ends up paying more per gallon of gas just to get to the store or work when they make between $7.25 to $8.00 dollars an hour depending on which state they live in and also depending on the distance they have to travel for that job or store will hurt them in every way.
Also what will happen to the people that are on a fixed income ( Social security ) Are their incomes going to be increased due to the increase of these taxes? I seen on Television several years ago seniors having to eat canned dog food in order to be able to pay the other bill's coming into the home (electric, water, garbage,etc..) Which the garbage disposal companies will also have to increase the fee's due to the increased price of gasoline along with some types of electric will also increase because the coal will still have to be shipped to the facility in order to be used to make electric.
Bio-fuels are the future of this country, but that would be up to the government. There are several ways to make bio-diesel, corn, hemp and many other plant materials are able to be converted to bio-fuels. Also sugar can be made into ethanol as Brazil does and all these would help the American farmers and stop the United states' Oil dependency of other countries. Also what about the fact of hydrogen powered vehicles. With toxic emissions at zero with this type of fuel. But of course if the U.S. stopped using Oil we wouldn't have reasons to HELP the Middle East out of their problems now would we.
From what I can see the only people that will benefit from this increase is the Government. Well anyone that works from home will not be as troubled by this increase but still will have to pay the higher prices when they themselves have not been producing the amount of green house gases.
I recall several years ago the government telling the gasoline companies that they need to fix the tanks that hold the gasoline at the stations and they gave them i believe 10 years to do so because of leaks. Half of the companies asked for an exstension when the time as up and they didn't even fix 20% of their tanks in those 10 years.
