"Anchor text", have you ever wondered what it REALLY means?. I have more that once. There are marketers out there that still don't know how to benefit from anchor text . Here are a simple explanation and how it can help your rankings with the search engines. I like it simple.
The text on a site that are clickable is "hyperlink", and the text in the "hyperlink" is the anchor text.
If you read regularly on our blog you will find words like blog, free traffic and Internet marketing a number of times, and you can almost always click on them, meaning that the words blog, free traffic and internet marketing is the anchor text
Anchor text should give your readers valuable information about the content of the page you're linking to.
Here's is the reason anchor text can be powerful:
Search engines finds out what the page is about. If you use this the right way you can boost your ranking, especially in Google..
Don't use anchor texts like "click here" or "read this" because you are telling the search engines that the subject is "click here" or "read this.. Use anchor text with wisdom and a keyword phrase you would like to rank good with on google.
You wouldn't rank highly for click here or read this and it's probably not a lot of related search term to your site?
Anchor text are so powerful that you can rank on google's first page even when the word is not mentioned anywhere else in the text .
Some that have had some fun with this topic, and use anchor text for humorous phrases, they use what is called "google bombing" and they get highly ranked for these humorous phrases. If it's a low competitive keyword only a handful of anchor text will give you a first page position with google. For highly competitive keyword you need hundreds and some time thousands of links. Since January 2007 it's harder to use "google bombing" but anchor text is still powerful .
When you are linking from other sites, it's an advantage to use html then you can determine the text in the anchor.
You have to do this wisely and don't make you site look like a big link so you can enjoy this ride up the "google ladder".
There are a number of ways to do this like internal links, external links and my favorite, link back to your main domain to give it a better page rank.
It's wise to keep in mind that there are real people that are going to read your sites, so the anchor text needs to make sense to the reader. To get your business to the next level, you need traffic. One way is to get them through article marketing, blog post, you wanna create a mix of returning readers and new. To achieve that you need to give your readers something of value - that is the key in internet marketing and something you should always strive for.
