Machines that are small in size but big in use; Width Sizer and Marker
The world around us today is teeming with machines of all sorts and kinds. From machines that are huge sized and find use only in industries and in factories to machines that are smaller in size and find use in normal everyday purposes too. An example of few machines that though are small in size yet are used in innumerable purposes include width sizers, radial cutters, markers, fine slivering machine, thickness sizer, motorized fine slivering machine, stick making machines, motorized stick making machines etc. All these machines are designed with great precision and great care so that each of these machines can do its assigned job with perfection.
A width sizer is one such machine. In fact, a width sizer is a simple tool that is used in designing purposes to produce bamboo strips of uniform width. The width sizer works by fixing it on a surface. The width sizer is fixed on the surfaces by screwing it at appropriate points on the bamboo or other wood pieces that need to be sized. The blades of a width sizer can be adjusted to a required width that ranges from 0 mm to 20 mm, by rotating the knob of the width sizer and pulling the required strips between the blades of the machine. In order to make wood pieces that are cut and shaped exactly in a shape and size to fulfill their requirement, the width sizers become a very important tool.
Another such important device that finds great and extensive use in not just industries but in many of our every day chores too is the marker. A marker can often be confused with the marker that is a part of the stationary and is used in marking books and notebooks and similar items. However, the marker in context here is a metallic marker that though is considerably smaller in size but has immense use too. The bamboo strips that are retrieved from the radial cutters that split the bamboo into six parts, each of equal dimension and size, are then fed in to the markers to prepare strips of bamboo of uniform size. Keeping in mind the fact that strips of 6.5mm thickness at the maximum only can be fed to a fine slivering machine, the need to size the bamboo sticks becomes important. Once the bamboo strip is placed in the marker hammer in the direction shown to a considerable distance, the strip is withdrawn from the marker and the rest of the strip is pulled out by hand.
Both these devices, though small in sizes, have proved to be of great importance and use in the bamboo industries and hence their growing popularity.
