Someone tested the sound level of noise of seven types of children toys (such as manned electric toy car, spring voice toys, inertia power toys etc.), the following figures surprise us:
Noise from toy vehicles is 82 to 100 decibels in distance of 10 centimeters. Noise level of large music gun within distance of 100 cm is 74 ~ 107 dB up to 130 ~140 dB. One kind of air compressed toys will be squeaky toy in the volume up to 78~ 108 dB within distance of 10cm. Firecrackers has average noise value up to 125~ 156 dB within distance of 300cm.
Among these noisy toys, the manned electric toy car has the highest noise level of 74~ 107 dB. Such kinds of toy vehicles are usually common in children's amusement places of park or large shopping malls, etc. Inertia children's toys have the lowest sound level of 52~ 81 dB, but majority parts of children toys has sound level more than 60 dB.
Noises of toys will increase the annoyance of children, leading to auditory fatigue. When the sound level is up to 65 dB, the children's accuracy of action, short-term memory, thinking and understanding ability all have declined. Index test on children's letters matching and memory of numbers indicates that the noise significantly interfere children's brain work ability, and has obvious adverse effects on the coordination of action.
Noise is passed through auditory organ to the cerebral cortex and autonomic nervous center, and cause a series of adverse reactions of the central nervous system. Man's subjective feelings include tinnitus, dizziness, difficulty falling asleep, dreaminess, and unresponsive to softly cry, or even heart palpitations, auditory hallucinations, head pain, ears itch. Children are in the growth stage, their sensory and nervous systems are more sensitive and tender, therefore, the noises do more serious harm on them. Swiss scientists report in a recent survey that, although not yet accurately measure the damage of noise on the auditory nerve cell, some deaf children have related with those toys of special sound.
To reduce harm of toy noise on children, we must first control the sound volume of toy itself, at least less than 60 dB. Experts warn parents let their children play with sound toys in a limit. Buying toys with children to the streets on holidays, we should pay attention to the selection of toys with sound not too big. Meanwhile, proposal to manufacturers of sound toys is to find ways to reduce noise.
