Having a well-paid and rewarding job is something the vast majority of us aspire to do, while having bad habits are certainly something no one aspires to. Unfortunately, gathering the latter is very easy and comes naturally, while the former is often incredibly tricky. Plus bad habits can cause you to lose your hard fought job if you are not careful.
Here are some of the most likely habits to earn you a boot out of the door:
Lateness
While you may agree that being 9 hours late to work is an understandable reason for being fired, what is a more common thing that really gets people fired is being consistently a couple of minutes late all the time. This is one of those things that line managers and co-workers notice and will become really annoying over time. It is the fact that they are already at work and you appear to have your own schedule. It may not actually be given as a reason for the firing but it may gradually build up an irreversible bitterness that a manager looking to fire someone will hold against you.
Job Hunting
Maybe you have been looking for a job for a while and finally get one. But when you are in your new job, you may find that just out of habit you will continue looking at job adverts and making enquiries. If your bosses spot this then they may get nervous that you are unhappy and are going to fly the coop any minute. This can lead to them firing you by way of beating you to it.
Social Networking
There is such a thing as a social networking addiction. If you have it, even in a mild form, it can get you in trouble. Also, if you have a tendency to blab about your work life, the business and your colleagues online then if they find out that you have been derogatory about the brand, you can be struck off immediately.
Drinking
Drinking at work, turning up drunk, missing work because you are hung over, vomiting on your boss - all bad.
Morning Sickies
There is a special human resources tool called the Bradford Factor, which is a formula that they can use to highlight patterns in your absences. If you have a habit of taking sneaky sickies to get over your weekend, then they will find out using this and can use it as a big reason to let you go.
If you are not careful you may just find yourself going through a redundancy procedure or having to come up with some hasty career change ideas.
