Security is a word you hear associated with computers everyday. Since many companies are keeping sensitive business information in data bases, someone needs to secure this information and oversee those who have access to it.
SAP is multi national software development company, and business consulting firm located in Germany. SAP offers software applications and support to businesses of all sizes. This means that when a company decides to use SAP software, to run its business, SAP takes over the entire business operation. SAP software such as SAP R/3 can take weeks for a business to implement. Some companies choose to move over to this software in a process that can take years.
Once a company is using this software, all of that company’s information is stored on one data base. All communication and work done for that company is done within that system. Users can login remotely and access information and complete tasks.
This of course creates a problem. How does one secure a system with that much information on it? This creates a position for a person to secure the SAP system. The person in charge of SAP Security will have a huge responsibility to ensure that the sensitive information contained is secure. This person will grant users access to the system at whatever level he or she chooses.
SAP Security jobs can be very lucrative. How does one go about getting one and how do you become trained to do this sensitive job? Obviously having a high level knowledge of computers and data bases is a must. If you work for a company that is implementing an SAP system, SAP offers courses on security. They will either come to your place of business, or you can go to an SAP location to receive training. This training is obviously ongoing, and you will be attending classes to keep your certification up to date.
Working in the SAP Security field is like guarding a vault. You will be responsible for all the information that is inside, and allow different people different levels of access to the vault. You will constantly be looking for ways that outsiders can get in the vault and steal information. The vault will be changing constantly and you will have constantly find ways to keep intruders out.
