There is no higher calling than that of caring for others. Becoming a registered nurse can be very rewarding. Now that you have decided to become a nurse what exactly is RN Training? What is required? Where do you take classes? First of all, let's look at what is required to become an RN. There are three paths to becoming a registered nurse. The first path is to get your Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree or BSN. This takes four years to complete. People who obtain their BSN have greater opportunity for career advancement. The nest possibility is to obtain an Associate Degree in Nursing on ADN. This takes two to three years to complete. Finally, you can get a diploma in nursing that is given by certain hospitals after three years of training.
After you complete one of these courses, you must then pass the NCLEX-RN, which is a national licensing exam in order to earn your nursing license. After that you must renew your RN license periodically.
There are a lot of different places to obtain you BSN. A few years ago, a study shows that 709 different nursing programs offered degrees at the bachelor level. There were about 850 programs that offered an ASN. There were about 70 programs that offered diplomas, and individuals from all three are qualified for an entry level job. Bear in mind that the more education you have, and the more you continue your education, the further you will go in your career.
In this modern age, it is possible to get your BSN online. However, online RN programs offering an RN to BSN also require students to take all of the prerequisites for a nursing major, such as biology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology and the other 'hard' sciences. When choosing your path to becoming an RN please consider that many times certain RN positions are only open to those with a BSN. Many registered nurses without this take longer to move up the employment ladder.
