In asking such a complex question, there are many way that this can be answered. There are several different outlooks to any type of game. With any type of game or gaming system you will have a negative cloud hanging over it as there has always been. Looking back a few decades, there was a cloud over Nintendo, Sega, Playstation, and even the Wii. People have always thought that video, computer and sometimes even board games were negative.
However, I am here to look at the positive side. With World of Warcraft, you have a game that can last you years if you want it to. I have learned that with any game that you will play there is a level of commitment that has to be given. One of the most important things we can teach our youth these days is commitment. This will not only help them in their own character, but with careers and down the road even family. The more commitment and longer you play, the better you will become.
World of Warcraft also tests you mentally. It gives you quests that you will have to overcome sometimes on your own, and sometimes with the help of others. There are skills that you will learn to master and ones you will struggle with the entire game. You will have an innate sense of accomplishment, as you are leveling your character.
Another positive aspect of this game is teamwork and social skills. There will be times in the game where you will need someone, or several other players to help and assist you in making it to another level. This is another way that WoW will help you in your real life. Unfortunately there will be times in life that you will need the assistance and pick me up of others, this only teaches you that this is normal and okay in the gaming world and in real life.
With the commitment that was listed earlier, you will also learn discipline. Now what adult or parent does not want a younger adolescence to learn about discipline. This can be a positive thing in dealing with life lessons. Also it will teach that with discipline comes reward. And the reward is much more appreciated when it is earned.
These are just a few aspects of the game that have not been looked at and I hope that you will now have a small understanding of so many peoples' love of the game.
