Want To Get Exercise And Fun: Play The Corntoss Game
By: Dave Threadcraft

One of the most popular games among the folks of North America is the corn toss game. It was originally played by the farmers in their farmlands but now the game has become a popular way for entertainment. There are tournaments organized for corntoss under the guidance of ACA, which is the association formed to regulate corntoss. Over period of time this game has been modified and adapted to be played in a more confined area. It provides exercise and improves the motor skills. Playing this game is in any way better than watching TV or playing board games where you sit in one place without any movement of the body.
Looking at the percentage of people who are becoming obese day by day it is always beneficial to try and opt for some sort of movement and exercise for the body. Thanks to hours of watching TV when you gorge on carbohydrate rich and fatty fast food , the number of obese people are ever increasing. The corntoss game is one such game which being fun to play will also help you get some exercise at least.

The corntoss game is not a substitute for a gym workout but it definitely provides good exercise for the limbs. If you have the all weather corntoss game sets then you cannot miss to play the game with your family. There is also the indoor version of the game but that again depends upon the free space that you have indoors. You can enjoy the nature and the sun if you play the game outdoors though.
Earlier when the game used to be played with standard boards and bags, it used to be difficult to maintain the equipments as rains or dew could damage them. But with the availability of all weather corntoss sets you just cannot miss playing the game as there is no worries as to the plywood board getting wet and become swollen. The boards in all weather corntoss sets are made of plastic and hence are easy to maintain.
Under normal circumstances, corntoss bags also need to be protected from weather elements because such bags are made from duck canvas and are filled with feed corn. Feed corn is very susceptible to mildew and hence become easily spoilt. If the bag gets wet, you need to take out the corns, have them dried and then refill the bags before stitching it up once again. Otherwise, the mildew will get at the corns and will turn them into dust. The all weather corntoss game bags with their weatherproof cloth instead of duck canvas and plastic palettes instead of feed corn face no such hazards. You can get them as wet as you wish, drying them is no problem at all.
The corn toss game is good for people of any age group. The only criteria are that the players have to follow some simple set of rules and you are eligible to play the game. There are two boards which are placed 33’ or 10m apart. The boards are of two types:
• Regulation boards- These are the ACA approved boards and measures 4’ x 2’ or 1.2m x 0.6m. This measurement is mostly followed by the all-weather boards.
• Tailgating boards- These boards are tailor made to suit different needs and purposes. They do not follow the ACA measurement policy and are smaller than the standard size. These boards usually measure 3’ x 2’ or 0.9m x 0.6m.

The rules of the corntoss game is such that there is a pitching area from where the player has to throw the corntoss bag into the hole. The pitching area is opposite to the placement of the board. The player is allowed to throw four bags in total. The scoring pattern is for every bag that falls in the hole the score is three points. For every bag that does not fall into the hole but on the board the score is one point. The final scoring point of the game is 21 points and the player or the team that reaches 21 points is announced the winner.
The ultimate aim of the team or individual player should be to hole the corntoss bags. The bags holed gets three points no matter how the bags fall into the hole. The bags can be directly thrown in to the hole or can slip into the hole. Sometimes the bags slide into the hole by being pushed by bags that are thrown by the opponent player or the team. Usually the bags are in different colors depending upon the number of teams or players playing the game. This is to identify and count the team’s or individual player’s scores.

Picnics can be boring without some games and Dave Threadcraft recommends bean bag toss game as simple yet fun outdoor activities enjoyable by both the old and young alike. It is easy to carry around and cheap to maintain. Check out other washer toss games available at his site.
