The Ideal, The Technique, And The Technology
By: Luke Wildman

It can be said that every masterpiece, there exists a story – of a verse, a line, and a true expression. Despite the popularity and the convergence of the technology and art with a rather popular sub-branch of pop art known today as pop art canvas, most, if not all, of those who lovingly admire the creativity of this form of art are highly unaware of a story of a movement that had been unconsciously commenced by its luminaries but later unified by a single undertaking that is continued by its contemporaries. Is there really a story behind the preference of the movement’s contemporaries with the utilisation of technology over known materials of the Abstract Expression in their creation of pop art canvas? Or, is the preference of modern-day technology highly determined by the availability and commercial motive?

A Light After Depression

It was during the 1950s when the mass media and other types of its ramifications had gained and hold, since then, the prominence that it enjoys today. With the effective illusion that had been created by the techniques and strategies that had been deployed through mass media, consumers had learned and re-learned the beauty of a world full of hope and perfection – further, provoking them to move closer to more than admiring celebrities and other personalities to which they had lovingly created. It is from such fascination that a technique known today as pop art was formed. With the mass media throwing hope after surviving from a bout depression – a time of rations, war, and death. With the unyielding perseverance of most consumers in advocating what had been represented by most mass media strategies, the need to achieve a shift in attitudinal perspective is necessitated. If there is such a medium of expression that had been so isolated, it is the art. And the luminaries that had started the technique of pop art had known that such need exists.

The Cause

The technique that had been first seen with the work of Eduardo Paolozzi in Parallel between Art and Life, Richard Hamilton and Japer Johns, had strived to bring an elite expression known as art. The cause of the pop art movement to bring the beauty and passion of art closer to everyone who might find a gift of talent inside continues to power the desire of contemporaries until now.

By using portraits, symbolism, and representation of objects that we may find dear or acquainted to, the artists of pop art had begun to paint a new and fresh perspective on the role of art in and how, in return, art is essentially part of our lives.

The utility of easily accessible technological improvements had further advanced the cause of pop art and both of its luminaries and contemporaries. An exemplary model for the merger of technology and beauty of art is seen in a contemporary sub-branch of this technique popularly referred to as pop art canvas.

Whilst most arts are believed to belong and confined to museums and walled gallery, pop art canvas had further penetrated the consciousness of the modern life by perfectly blending into the present architectural requirement. By acting as an ideal substitute to the expensiveness of Abstract Expressionism, pop art canvas had distinguished itself through the utilisation of a vibrant interplay of colour and youth. Though only seen as a simple, contemporary wall décor, it can be deduced that pop art canvas had disguised itself in order to bring the cause of the pop art luminaries closer to its destiny.
