Yeast infections can occur in various forms in any part of the body.
There are so many different types of yeast infections and so many reasons why they occur that most people fail to detect it in the first place as a yeast infection.
Some of the most common reasons for yeast infections are:
• Low immune system due to stress, obesity or diseases like AIDS and diabetes.
• In females conditions like pregnancy, menopause and excess use of birth control pills can cause yeast infection.
• Poor hygiene habits in men cause yeast infections.
• Unhealthy food habits and lifestyle.
• Sexual intercourse with an infected partner.
• Regular consumption of antibiotics, alcohol, and sugary and starchy food items.Yeast infections can occur due to any or all of these reasons.
Some of the types of yeast infections most commonly seen are:
• Vaginal yeast infections- almost 80% of women suffer from vaginal yeast infection at least once in their life. This type of yeast infection can accelerate during pregnancy. However, it is just as easy to cure them.
• Oral Yeast infections- These are also known as thrush and are commonly seen in aged people and in those suffering from AIDS. In thrush yeast infections occur around the corners of the mouth and in the throat area.
• Male yeast infections
- in men yeast infections commonly occur in the penis area usually due to poor hygiene conditions or due to sex with an infected partner. This causes inflammation, swelling, itching and burning and discharge from the penis.
• Skin yeast infections- skin yeast infections can occur in warm and moist areas of the body like underarms, between toes and fingers, under the breasts, between fat rolls in obese people and in the crotch region. These again can be triggered in places with hot and humid climate and due to lesions or cuts on the skin from where the yeast cells can enter our body.
• Diaper rashes- in babies the most common type of yeast infection is the diaper rash. Babies wear diapers for a long time if the area is not kept clean and dry there are high chances of getting a diaper rash. Also if the baby is being breastfed by a mother who has the infection herself, the yeast infection can develop in the form of thrush in the baby.
It is important for the mother to get regularly checked for an infection.
These were the different types of yeast infections and the various reasons why they occur in the first place.
Maintaining hygiene of the body and having a healthy diet and lifestyle can prevent most types of yeast infections, and if not cured it is important to visit a doctor.
