Weight lifting also known as strength training is basically a type of exercise in which you lift heavy weights. Some people do weight lifting just for passion. It is good as it keep their body fit. But there are many people who do it just for loosing weight, muscle toning and keeping body in shape. One of the reasons a lot of people do not lift weights is because they are intimidated by the word weight lifting.

There are number of people in this world who give different reasons. Actually they do not want to do weight lifting. But the fact is that to remain healthy it is very important. It can protect you from many different diseases in your old age. It is the best thing that you can do to fight off osteoporosis, lowering of blood pressure, etc.

In the first paragraph I gave you simple definition for weight lifting. But if weight lifting is so simple then why people do not make it their habit? I have two most common answers for it. First is that they do not know what to do and from where to start; and the second probable reason is that they have not yet realized the important of weight lifting in life.

If you do weight lifting at least three days a week for thirty minutes then you will never face any problem in your old age. But there are many myths to which people skip weight lifting. The most common myth is that people think that if they will lift weight then they will get big bulky body with big muscles. It is not true. Bulky body comes out if the person spend 4 to 5 hour in gym per day. So if you want to make big muscles then you have to spend at least three hours a day for weight lifting. There are many people who want big muscles but do not want to do any weight lifting. They just take drugs that make big muscles but these drugs result in numerous side effects.

Weight lifting helps in burning a lot of calories even if you are sitting and watching TV. This happens only if you spend 30 minutes for weight lifting at least three days a week. This is because of your muscle toned body. With weight lifting you will be able to loose weight even at the time you are not exercising.

If you do weight lifting regularly then you have muscles in place of fat. These muscles help in loosing weight.

So start weight lifting now and make your body slim and trim and fit for old age.
