How To Deal With Hyperactive Children
By: Alice Calder

Hyperactive children are disruptive and are more likely to find trouble in school, at play, and even at home. They can be annoying as they are often impulsive and bothersome to classmates, teachers, and playmates. Subsequently, people may tend to dislike them and refrain from getting near them. In some instances, hyperactivity in children is caused by Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Typically, hyperactive children are difficult to handle. However, it is not impossible for parents and teachers to manage them with success. Here are some tips on how to deal with hyperactive children.
• Impose limitations but provide flexibility. Let the children know that you mean business when you tell them to behave. A reprimand for unwanted behavior may do. However, maintain a kind disposition while imposing your rules. In some instances, the stricter you are to them, the harder they are to manage. Especially for children with ADHD, it would help a lot if you will give them a leeway and just let them crawl or move around when they want to.
• Reduce the amount of sugar in their diet. A number of studies have shown that too much sugar intake can trigger hyperactivity in children.
• Establish a routine. Consistency and structure help children feel secure in their surroundings. In a way, this helps suppress their hyperactivity.
• Avoid caffeinated drinks. Beverages or foods containing caffeine can trigger hyperactivity in a child. This is because caffeinated drinks have stimulant properties.
• Create a soothing ambiance. Children who are hyperactive, particularly those who have ADD or ADHD, have trouble staying calm in a busy or buzzing environment.
• Establish a place for relaxation. Allot a space where children can relax. It doesn’t have to be big as long as it could provide a means for relaxation. Most importantly, the place should be peaceful and quiet, away from busy activities and noise.
• Think positive. Children can sense negative thoughts and they may respond to them aggressively.
• Give the children lots of time to be creative. Letting the children apply their creativity helps release their emotional energy and may help lessen their hyperactivity.
• Teach the children to take deep breaths when they are beginning to get out of control. Deep breaths can calm the body.
• Give the hyperactive child a soothing massage on his temples or shoulders. Massaging or touching a hyperactive child can soothe him and help him relax.
• Take the hyperactive child out for a walk regularly. Walking can help bring focus back into the mind.

When a child exhibits unmanageable hyperactivity, you can bring him to a doctor and have him undergo an ADHD test or whatever is appropriate to make a proper diagnosis for his behavior. Some hyperactive children are given medications to control their behavior. Parents can also give their children natural remedies such homeopathic remedies and herbal remedies. There are natural remedies out there that are known to be very effective in relieving hyperactivity in children.

Natural alternative remedies are effective and you do not have to fear any side effects. If the above-mentioned tips won’t work in your child, try giving him natural alternative remedies instead.
