Difference Between Angina And A Heart Attack
By: alfred alston

This chest pain can irradiate to either one or both arms but most often it does to the left one. Sometimes they can feel heaviness or numbness on the shoulder or in the arm, from the elbow to the fingers. In rare occasions, the symptoms of angina can be felt in the neck, throat, jaw, ears, stomach, or even between the shoulder blades. If the chest pain occurs when the patient is making a physical work, they can also have difficulty breathing simultaneously.

Invariably women experience a quantity of the symptoms differently. That is why this form of angina can be difficult to diagnose in women. In women, the pain more like a pulsating pain or stabbing pain in lieu of a constricting pain. In addition, they can suffer from nausea, shortness of breath and/or abdominal pain.

The most common form of angina is associated with coronary artery disease. As they grow older, our blood vessels tend to "harden" or lose a quantity of their elasticity, a method known as arteriosclerosis. They also may become narrowed or clogged with deposits of fatty material. These are gradual processes that may go on for years, even decades, without causing any problems or symptoms. But if the narrowing progresses to the stage where 75 percent or more of the artery is blocked, the result may be angina or a feeling of breathlessness. Typically, classic angina is brought on by exertion or other activities that cause the heart to work harder; for example, the increased blood flow necessary to digest a massive meal. Chilled weather, emotional upsets or anxiety are other common factors that may provoke angina.

It is important to do everything you can to keep away from unstable angina symptoms as unstable angina symptoms can result in heart attack. The unstable angina symptoms are occurring because of blockage in the arteries. The plaque causing the narrowing can rupture & block the artery. This can result in heart attack.

If you experience symptoms of angina then get medical attention immediately. If the symptoms are leading to a heart attack then medical attention may prevent the attack. In a case where there is a heart attack then medical attention may significantly reduce the damage to the heart muscle that the attack causes.

Method tests include an electrocardiogram (ECG), blood pressure measurements, blood & urine tests as well as a chest X-ray. The doctor may need during the ECG the patient walks on a treadmill (exercise bicycle) while hooked up to a machine that records the heart's electrical activity. The level of exercise is slowly increased until the patient feels pain & there is a change to the ECG pattern. Further tests may include a coronary angiogram. This entails a fine tube inserted in to your heart by an artery in your groin. A special dye is then inserted in to the arteries clearly displaying any narrowing (blocked) arteries on the X-ray images.

increase in the threshold of ischemia & improvement of patients' sense of well being. Yogic asanas & pranayam also help in reducing symptoms & increasing physical & mental fitness. It is important to reduce stress.
