So Halloween is coming up in just a few weeks now and I don't know about you, but for me it's a bit of a cause of concern. You see, I'm a large person myself. I go to the costume stores and glance at the stuff they have and frankly, even if I could fit into the costumes that are for sale (and in most cases I can't since plus size Halloween costumes are not exactly standard issue for most stores), I still have the problem of the costume looking funny. I mean let's face it, if I wanted to dress up as a slutty woman, I'm not going to look good doing it, even if I did find a costume to fit.
Or if I wanted to dress as a Starfleet officer, have you ever seen Captain Kirk fat? I mean William Shatner has gained a lot of weight since he last played James Tiberius, but I can assure you that Starfleet, like the military would simply refuse to take someone who looks like me. What to do? Well, I came up with a list of plus size Halloween costumes that could potentially work and will not cost an arm and a leg. Check 'em out:
Ghost. This is one of the simplest ideas of all. Just use a huge flat white sheet. It can be decorated with some cob webs and streaks perhaps to give it a more otherworldly creepy sort of look and the sheet will cover nicely all the various “areas.”
An old “babushka.” This is a really easy one to pull off as well and your weight will actually work to your advantage. In essence, in times past people who were well off were fat. The skinny ones were the people who were poor. So you get a gray haired wig and an old house dress and dress up as an old and friendly housewife.
For the men looking for plus size Halloween costume ideas, you have a much easier time. Think about Hardy, from Laurel and Hardy or Jackie Gleason, or Bud Abbot. You could easily pull together a nice costume where you would look like any of them and totally look the part. In essence, all you really need in order to do laurel is a large suit and a small fake mustache. Add in a bowler hat and perhaps a cane and you're good to go.
Or you could go with one of those rubber masks that look exactly like the stars and then you simply wear a suit and you're golden. Whatever you do though, just have fun and be yourself. That's the most important thing.
