Math Games: A Learning Game To Develop Your Childs Thinking
By: Walter Hart

Playing with numbers has been a genuine pastime for one and all from a long time. In olden times people used to play with sticks and pebbles and the basic concept behind all these games was of course maths. These games were prevalent even when there were no computers or other electronic devices. Nowadays, with the advent of computers and high tech gaming devices people are so much involved with the graphics and actions of the games that they are starting to ignore the fun and challenge brought about by many games which involve numbers.

Mathematical games are those in which the strategies or rules are based on certain mathematical fundamentals like addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. Many games like the tic-tac-toe and monopoly are based on these mathematical concepts. It may not be evident whilst playing the games but maths is involved in many logical and calculative games also. In some games like chess children learn in a subtle way the basics of maths and hence the subject they dread the most becomes pleasure for them. So we may say that these games not only are recreational for children but also slowly give them a firm background about the basic fundamentals of maths.

The games which involve maths should be designed carefully. They should be a blend of fun and imagination and they should not be very academically poised. Some games involve maths in each and every stage which makes them quite unpopular. Above this the mathematical games should not be very complicated as this may lead to irritation amongst the players. It’s not easy to follow the rules when a game is based on intricate mathematical concepts and this stretches a child’s tender imagination and ability way too far.

Hence a good mathematical game should be based on minimum aspects of maths. The games can involve some sort of strategy or logical principle which makes it more comprehendible. On the other hand they should not be very simple which would make the children uninterested. Hence a proper balance of fun and entertainment should be incorporated along with maths in order to make the game a success.

Maths is a subject people either love or hate but cannot ignore. Teachers strive to get the best out of their students and they incorporate various techniques to make the subject easier to comprehend, Incorporatinggames while teaching maths not only makes the fundamentals clear but also teaches the children the basics of team-work which is highly lacking in today’s generation. The games which involve mathematical concepts can be recreational for those who love maths but for those who do not like maths these games can be like tutors. Hence it’s always good to be exposed to those games which teach calculations in any form. These math games give the brain a workout and also provide fun at the same time.

The math games are a challenge for those who have a high inclination towards math games and helpto prove the hidden genius within them.
