Sweet Potato Pies Holiday Recipes That Dont Call For Milk Or Cream
By: Jake Hudson

My Grandmother used to make sweet potato pies without milk or cream. She was an old Southern woman that never measured or wrote down anything she knew by heart. I never got the chance to write the recipe down before she past away. I want to bake one for the upcomingholiday recipe . Please help!

Though I don’t have an exact holiday recipe for you, I would suggest baking the sweet potatoes, rather than boiling them. Their flavor is much more rich when baked.

Or, you could do as I have done before, and it tastes dynamite!! Make candied sweet potatoes, and once they are fully cooked, mash them (or use the blender/mixer) and pour into pie crusts and bake.

Here’s a holiday recipe for those, adjust it as you may need for a smaller batch.

3 pounds sweet potatoes or yams–peeled and cubed
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 sticks sweet butter, cubed
vanilla flavoring
Serves: 4 person(s)

Preparation Time: 12 mins
Cooking Time: 50 mins

Antioxidant-rich sweet potatoes and cherry juice are featured in this colorful dish.

Ingredients:
2 medium sweet potatoes

2 Tbsp undiluted cherry juice concentrate

1 Tbsp brown sugar

1 Tbsp butter or buttery spread, melted

1/8 tsp ground ginger

1 green onion, sliced

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400ºF.

Scrub potatoes and cut in half lengthwise; do not peel. Spray a baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place potatoes in pan, cut-side down. Bake in preheated oven 30 to 40 minutes or until almost tender.

Stir together undiluted cherry juice concentrate, brown sugar, butter, and ginger. Turn potatoes cut-side up and brush with cherry mixture. Bake 5 to 10 minutes or until tender. Sprinkle with green onion. Serve immediately.
