With the new Year upon us its likely that many people have started to change their lifestyle in order to improve health and loose weight. Whilst its 'likely' many people are doing this its equally 'likely' that plenty of people have vowed to do it but have already stopped. Without making changes to your lifestyle likely hood is whatever current trends you have will become exaggerated with the passage of time. That is if you are putting on 2lbs in weight a year, which does not sound a lot, over 10lb years that could be 20lb? If you are not exercising now chances are it will get more and more difficult to start! Likewise if you are not using your mental capacity it may slowly diminish.
There are many different things you can do to decrease the rate of aging of the mind. The brain has the capacity to continually develop by making new connections between cells. It is the density of these connections and use of them that is generally considered the key to increasing and maintaining mental capacity .There is no reason why people should not continue improving their mental abilities as they get older. When you start school at 5-6 you start learning, as you go through school 14-15-16 etc you carry on. This process can continue if you desire..
A simple lifestyle change to help maintain and aid improvement of both physical and mental capacity is to drink sufficient quantities of water and or suitable drinks. Keeping your mind and body hydrated to aids both the function of your body and mind in present moment and helps preserve the capabilities since the stresses of persistent dehydration could lead to failure or lower performance of key organs .
It is well known water is vital for the body, without sufficient intake our bodies begin to suffer. Humans can only survive for up to 4 days without water, and the last 3 days of those days are unlikely to be days where you feel like doing a crossword for fun or exercising ! Dehydration can reduce productivity and concentration levels. This is a good reason for employees to provide staff with an office water cooler.
However, understandably, I'm sure most of you are more concerned about your own well being as opposed to being productive for your boss or employer. Drinking 6 glasses of water a day you could help ward off later mental issues and diseases such as alzeihmers or dementia.
In addition to drinking more water you should also do some regular exercise and a keep your mind active doing activities such as crosswords, Sudoku playing, cards or chess . These little steps combined could make a big difference to what is ultimately your life! Whatever your New Year Resolution, was or is, its never to late to start doing something toward improving your life both physically and mentally, even if the first step is a glass of water!
