Your Baby Shower is a Time for Celebration!
By: Donald Saunders

The birth of a baby is certainly an exciting time and a time for celebration but it is also often an anxious time with you running around ensuring that you have everything that you need and worrying about whether you will be able to cope. Naturally, this is particularly true if you are first-time parents.

The idea for a baby shower came about as a special time for friends and family to be together in advance of the baby's arrival and to assist in meeting the financial burden on the proud parents-to-be by giving them a lot of the accessories and furnishings that they will need once their baby arrives.

In spite of the fact that today most people like to break out of the traditional mold when it comes to a baby shower, for the most part these events still stick largely to traditional guidelines. Possibly one of the biggest changes to the baby shower format is that they are no longer exclusively for women and plenty of men make it onto today's baby shower guest list and are more than happy to join in. While they may not take part in all of the baby shower games, men do get pleasure from the opportunity to give their regards to the expectant mother and father-to-be.

It should be noted though that in certain cultures a baby shower is considered a sign of bad luck and so, if it is possible that the expectant mother might believe that it is unlucky, then you ought to be sure to check before holding a baby shower.

In some countries a baby shower is actually held after the baby is born while it others it is organized in advance of the birth. In a lot of ways it is a good idea to hold the shower following the birth as a baby shower is a celebration of the baby and guests obviously like to see the focal figure of the celebration. It also makes it easier to select gender-appropriate colors and gifts and, should your gift needs to be engraved, then your guests will have all of the details that they need.

Although holding the baby shower after the baby's birth does make sense it is a very hectic time for parents and a lot of the baby items that the need are needed the moment the baby arrives home. For this reason having the baby shower before the baby's birth is becoming a more common option these days.

The baby shower itself is traditional and most showers involve a core of sort of planning and activities. A guest list will need to be compiled, a venue selected and invitations sent out. The shower venue then needs to be decorated and the drink, food and games organized. And, as it is a special event, you may want to think about having a musician or other performer participating in the festivities and a photographer to record the event.

A baby shower can grow into a big affair with many things to organize that are going to end up costing a lot of money. For this reason it is sensible to put together a budget for the event before you begin and then make sure that you keep to it.

Having a successful baby shower does not need any special talent but it requires a carefully thought out plan that includes a budget and a timeline.
