Basic Stitches in Crocheting
Crochet, similar to knitting, is a method of creating a patterned material using a yarn or thread. It is the process of pulling loops of yarn through other loops using a crochet hook.
The apparent difference between crochet and knitting is that uses one hook while the latter is two.
There are 11 basic crochet stitches. The first one is called chain. It is by making a slip loop on crochet needle then drawing the thread through this loop. By continuing this process, a continuous long chain is can be created.
A slipstitch is a technique done by putting the needle through work while holding one loop, and pulling the loop after drawing the thread through.
A crochet stitch is a process of leaving two loops on needle and throwing the thread once over the needle then drawing through two loops.
The next stitch is the half double crochet. This type of technique leaves three loops on the needle. It throws and pulls three loops at once.
A double crochet is done through leaving three loops on the needle, then throwing the thread over the needle and pulling through two. The latter is done twice.
In a treble crochet, the thread is wind twice around the needle, then the needle is inserted into the work, then the thread is pulled through leaving four loops on the needle.
The process of double treble includes winding the thread thrice around the needle, which is being inserted into work, then the thread is pulled through. This leaves five loops.
The long treble technique includes a process similar to double treble. Only the thread is winded four times around the needle and it leaves six loops.
A combination treble is done through winding thread twice and inserted into the work, then pulled through. Then the thread remained over the needle, which is pulled through two. This is done twice, which leaves two loops. After which, thread over needle is repeated twice, with the same process of inserting and pulling through until it leaves three stitches on the needle.
The picot is a technique done by making a chain, and skipping three chain stitches, them making a single crochet. After which is catching back into the first chain with single crochet. The last step is to make four single crochet stitches between picots.
A filet crochet consists of both open and closed meshes. The base chain is thrice the number of meshes in the first row, then add six.
