By: Charles Revelle

For all those students planning to further their graduate education, USC Graduate School could possibly be the correct option. The University of Southern California, or USC, is a private non profit making institution. Situated in Los Angeles, in the state of California, you could be surprised to learn that USC is the oldest private research University in the State. In Fall 2010 there were 19,516 graduate and professional students enrolled into a large variety of different programs, which includes business, law, science and medicine. The University of Southern California was ranked in 23rd place in a survey of North American Universities and attracts international students from around the entire world.

Around 134 master's, doctoral and professional degrees, are offered in the USC Graduate School program. They are taught in 17 professional schools, including the Marshall School of Business, the Gould School of Law, the Keck School of Medicine, the Andrew and Erna Viterbi School of Engineering, and the Rossier School of Education. Graduate school enrollment began to exceed undergraduate enrollment, for the first time in 2007.

Los Angeles itself, is easily the most populated city in California. The city was founded in 1781, and became part of Mexico in 1821, following the Mexican War of Independence. At the end of this war, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and became part of the USA. LA is a world center of business, international trade, entertainment, fashion, technology, to name just a few! The city is often nicknamed the 'City of Angels'. Los Angeles has been ranked 3rd richest city and 5th most powerful and influencial city in the world. Los Angeles is home to Hollywood and known as the "Entertainment Capital of the World".

Los Angeles enjoys an abundance of sunshine over summer and winter, and has a mediterranean climate. Due to its location on the 'Pacific Ring of Fire', Los Angeles is subject to earthquakes. This geological instablity has produced numerous faults, one of the major ones being the San Andeas fault. Many major earthquakes have hit the city..

It is certain that there are lots of things that could attract graduate students to the city of Los Angeles and to USC Graduate School. The commerical significance of the city, the sheer numbers of activities to do in LA, the warm weather and the excellent reputation of USC, are perhaps a number of them. Deciding on a graduate school is an extremely important decision, and there are many additional factors, other than location to think about. It is very wise to research any college you may very well be considering with great care. The range of study courses available and financial factors are also extremely important to think about. However it is safe to say that, USC graduate school might be the right choice for a lot of people, to further their particular academic career.
