10 Treatment Approaches To Alleviate Migraine Headaches Naturally
By: Joshua Harding

Most folks understand that pain killers will often cause unasked for conditions, some of which could be worse than the symptoms they're supposed to relieve. Because of this more folks are looking for natural migraine relief as a substitute for ingesting possibly harmful pain killing medications. There are a number of natural migraine relief options, but they won't all work for everybody. Some might work for some folks while others might work for other individuals.

If you suffer with migraine headaches and don't find relief from the initial natural treatment technique you attempt, don't get depressed. It could take some time to discover one that works for you. And there is no reason you cannot use many techniques at the same time. Sometimes a mixture of these treatment alternatives can help more than one methodology. Here are 10 methods that might help you attain natural migraine relief.

1 - Get in a hot tub or take a hot shower. This is a way to enhance blood flow to your body instead of your head. It also has the additional advantage of soothing tense muscle tissue that will also give natural migraine relief.

2 - Alleviate stiff muscles using massage. Gently rub any muscles in the head, neck, face, and shoulders using your finger pads. Be firm, but mild, and rub in a circular motion.

3 - Steer clear of stressful situations. If a selected activity is increasing your stress, cancel that activity. Decreasing anxiety and stress will help give natural migraine relief.

4 - Lie down in a dimly lit area. Relaxing in a dimly lit area will accomplish two things. Many migraine sufferers are sensitive to intense light so relaxing in a dimly lit area can stop throbbing caused by this light sensitivity. Moreover, the more active you are the more rapidly your heart will beat, increasing the throbbing pain. Lying in a quiet area will help alleviate the throbbing pain caused by too much movement or activity.

5 - Avoid bright lighting. Even when you cannot locate a nice peaceful spot to rest, it can still help if you can remove the bright light.

6 - Pressure point stimulation. There are two pressure points positioned a little lower than the bottom of the skull, one on each side of the spine and roughly 2 inches from one another. Either depress or squeeze these two regions to discharge endorphins. This will often help to eliminate discomfort.

7 - Cool off the rear of your neck. This can decrease the amount of blood flow to your head which will help eliminate the discomfort. When using an ice pack or bag of ice be sure to place a thin moist protective barrier between the ice and the skin. This could be some wet paper towels or cloth. Furthermore, placing your feet into a container of warm water will help redistribute the blood toward your feet and far away from your head. This is often a nice method for achieving natural migraine relief.

8 - Position a cool wash cloth on your forehead or temple region. You'll be able to boost the impact by putting your feet in heated water.

9 - Niacin can often help. There are two types of niacin that are regularly available: niacinamide and niacin. Niacin, taken in sufficient amounts, can cause an individual to turn red which in turn can trigger an overall warm sensation and probable itchiness. The usual flush and itchiness will be a tiny price to pay for migraine headache relief. Niacinamide is kind of like niacin, but is not going to bring about as much of a flush.

10 - Do not exercise. Any vigorous activity or exercise will enhance the pounding pain. By refraining from exercise you will be able to evade the symptoms caused by it.

The bulk of these techniques have one goal in mind, to ease the pressure in the head by decreasing the flow of blood. When the blood vessels expand it leads to headache discomfort. Decreasing the blood flow to the head will decrease the amount of pressure and thereby eliminate the symptoms of migraine headaches.
