MCSA Training From Home - Options
By: Jason Kendall

The MCSA course is perfect for men and women looking to get into network support. Whether you want to get into IT or have previous knowledge but want to formalise that with a recognised qualification, you'll find the correct training for you. If you're thinking of moving into the computing environment as a beginner, it's likely you'll have to learn a few things prior to studying for all four MCP exams that are necessary to become MCSA qualified. Look for a company that will create an ideal program to help you - ask to discuss this with an industry expert to analyse your best course of action.

A subtle way that training providers make more money is by adding exam fees upfront to the cost of a course and offering an exam guarantee. It looks impressive, until you think it through:

Thankfully, today we are a little bit more aware of sales ploys - and usually we realise that of course we're actually paying for it - they're not just being charitable and doling out freebies! For those who want to pass first time, evidence suggests you must fund each exam as you take it, give it the necessary attention and be ready for the task.

Shouldn't you be looking to go for the best offer when you're ready, not to pay the fees marked up by a training company, and also to sit exams more locally - rather than possibly hours away from your area? A great deal of money is made by a number of companies who incorporate exam fees into the cost of the course. For various reasons, many students don't take their exams but the company keeps the money. Believe it or not, providers exist that rely on that fact - as that's where a lot of their profit comes from. Re-takes of previously unsuccessful exams through training course providers who offer an 'Exam Guarantee' inevitably are heavily regulated. You'll be required to sit pre-tests so you can prove to them you have a good chance of passing.

Prometric and VUE exams are in the region of 112 pounds in this country. Why spend so much more on fees for 'exam guarantees' (most often hidden in the package) - when a quality course, support and exam preparation systems and a dose of commitment and effort are what's required.

Trainees eager to get a career in IT often haven't a clue what route they should take, or which area to obtain accreditation for. Since without any commercial background in IT, in what way could we know what any job actually involves? Consideration of the following areas is vital when you need to discover the right answer for you:

* What hobbies you're involved with in your spare-time - often these point towards what possibilities will satisfy you.

* What is the time-frame for the retraining?

* What priority do you place on salary vs the travel required?

* With many, many markets to choose from in computing - you will have to get some key facts on what differentiates them.

* Having a proper look into the effort, commitment and time you'll make available.

For most people, dissecting these areas will require meeting with someone who can investigate each area with you. Not only the certifications - but the commercial requirements and expectations of industry too.

We can guess that you're a practical sort of person - the 'hands-on' type. Typically, the world of book-reading and classrooms is something you'll force on yourself if you absolutely have to, but it's not really your thing. Consider interactive, multimedia study if you'd really rather not use books. Our ability to remember is increased with an involvement of all our senses - educational experts have expounded on this for decades now.

Programs are now found on CD and DVD discs, so you can study at your own computer. Through video streaming, you will be able to see the instructor presenting exactly how something is done, followed by your chance to practice - with interactive lab sessions. Always insist on a study material demo' from the training company. The materials should incorporate instructor videos, demonstrations, slide-shows and lab's for you to practice your skills in.

Purely on-line training should be avoided. Ideally, you should opt for CD and DVD ROM courseware where possible, so you can use them wherever and whenever you want - it's not wise to be held hostage to your broadband being 'up' 100 percent of the time.

Don't accept anything less than an accredited exam preparation programme included in your course. Make sure that the exams you practice aren't just asking you the right questions in the right areas, but are also posing them in the exact format that the real exams will formulate them. This completely unsettles people if the questions are phrased in unfamiliar formats. A way to build self-confidence is if you check your depth of understanding through quizzes and practice in simulated exam environments to prepare you for taking the real thing.
