The first key to any business whether it be off or online is VISABLILITY! This part is important in the aspect of what you want to promote ? Is it going to be the products that you wish to get out there that will help people or is it going to be the promotion of yourself ? This is one of the main marketing questions. When you promote a product it has to be helpful in some way to the perspective client.
Now if you are going to promote yourself, In what way are you going to do this? There are many ways to do this both off and online these days. In the off line community it will most likely be through television ads, bill boards, mobile ads on vehicles, etc... Now if you are going to be doing it online there are more ways to do this.
First you need to have a website. Having a blog, or setting up a forum are other ways to become visible but you have to have pertinent content that is helpful.
Branding your product is also very important in the fact that you have to make what you are promoting new and exciting yet not sales pitchy in order to have the people want to learn more or purchase your product. This is called product management, brand management, or customer management. Now this is not just having your client list in a data base. You will need to keep in contact with them by giving them any new information that you find that will help them because if they are part of your company then they work for you in some way or another or way end up working for you in the future by taking part in one of your products. You will also need to find the right market or people that want to hear about the information or product you provide to the public.
But now that you have your product or content out there how will people see it. That is the key to any business. How are you going to get the targeted traffic to your website or opt-in page? With the articles you have written and lets say you are a member of a social network site you will be looking for people that want to hear about what you have. This is done with the right keywords for any type of advertisement you use.
There are so many different parts to any advertising it can be overwhelming especially when working online. Google Adwords, Google Adsense, and other Google tools will help, just don't rely on them completely. You have always heard don't put all your eggs in one basket, TRUE! There are a few out there but from what I have heard Aweber is the most used and problem free autoresponder out there but like I said check them all out and ask other marketers what they use because most marketers will help you because they are looking for the same thing as you are. Which is more exposure to the people that are online and if they help you then you might look at their products and may actually become good friends or business partners down the road.
Creating relationships with the other marketers will be beneficial to you and them. Lets say you have a blog and you offer to post something of theirs once a week and for this they do the same on theirs. This will create two things. More people seeing you and more people seeing them and all you have to do is follow each other to keep track as you and they will see when and what you post.
By building a following or e-mail list you will now be able to keep in contact with the people that are helping you now and help the people that will help you in the future. By having a following in either e-mail, your Blog, your Forum, and Twitter you will be able to build the list by giving out knowledgeable information on the products that you are looking to “sell” to others, but again this is done by connecting with them and then giving the correct information to help them. If you do these few things to start with you will see an increase in the traffic to your website or websites.
