HACCP Training Basics

HACCP training is something that is very important when it comes to being successfully safe in the food business, but not a lot of business owners know how to use it. Here are some tips on using HACCP training to a food business.

Research

The first thing that you want to do is research which of the HACCP materials which are available are going to help your business the most. There are different types of training materials and guidelines that are going to help different businesses. One of the ways that you can find out what is going to help your business is to call the department of health in your area and ask them for assistance.

Make a Selection

The next thing that you want to do is to choose a leader for the team whom is going to be responsible for assembling the HACCP training materials. You may also find that it’s less expensive to send one person such as manager, a director or someone else to get formal HACCP training and then come back with the materials. That person will then do the training of the other employees.

Train Employees

Using the HACCP training materials, train the employees on a continual basis. Safety posters should be displayed around the kitchen as reminders on a daily basis. The most common posters have the temperatures for meat and the guidelines for storage.

Keep Employees Informed

Let all of the new employees know the guidelines of the kitchen which revolve around the HACCP training procedures. So that everyone is consistent, a document should be created that has a few of the standard procedures on it and that is given to employees when they are hired. These procedures should match what their job description is in the business.

Monitor Continually

Make sure that you monitor your employees and make sure that they are following the guidelines they found out through the HACCP training. Making sure that the temperatures are good, that the food is cooled properly and checking procedures for storage to check the techniques. You can do this through a checklist to see how your employees are doing. Make sure that you are doing the checks randomly too, so that the employees don’t know when you will check what they are doing. This will help ensure that they are following procedure all the time.

HACCP training is something that can be very useful when you are in the restaurant business, but it’s only useful and effective when everyone in the business is following it. Putting HACCP training into practice is going to help ensure that the food that you are serving to people is safe to eat and that there is a greatly decreased risk of someone getting sick from it. HACCP training is designed to make sure that food served in establishments is healthy and safe, and that is why so many food establishments count on it. it’s a tool that everyone in the food business needs to use.
